Do we have the space for his new contract? Even dumping Coburn and Mez?

Also, where would we get two forwards to replace what we give up.

Rich Smith ‏@ALLsportsINTEL 5m
NHL - Source - The 3 teams most likely to make a run at Blues star Pietrangelo is Oilers, Flyers and Flames, Oilers and Flyers more likely

Rich Smith ‏@ALLsportsINTEL 18m
NHL - Im aware of how good Pietrangelo is, that he isn't even in his prime yet, however dealing 2 top 6 forwards +, may hurt more than help

Hockey Tracker ‏@Hockey_tracker 26m
CSNPhilly reports the #Flyers are monitoring the situation with the #STLBlues & Pietrangelo who has not yet accepted his qualifying offer

THIS IS VERY INTERESTING...

- stveshdy

The hockey tracker thing has to do with Timmy p's piece on holmer. He had a blurb on pietro at the end of it

What does stl want? Youth I'd imagine

Edmonton is going to be tough to beat out in that regard

Start with their pick of schenn/cooter, coburn, 1st

Personally, I believe the three teams that need a center and have good D man to offer back as an upgrade are Slugs, Yotes, and Ducks.
I would take any of Myers, Sbisa, or OEL.
I just think the packaging for Pietrangelo would be too much to handle.

The price is going to be sky high which it should be for a player of his caliber at such a young age.

Im not buying the Petro rumor....GM already said he would match any offer sheet unless he didnt expect Petro to garner 7plus a per.
- flyerfan28

We wouldn't be OSing him, we'd be trading for him

Obviously they do but this guy is a franchise d-man which we all know here dont come around too often. What easier to aquire a top D-man in the league or a top 6 or 9 forward?

As much as I like them, I'd rather offer Schenn plus Read over Couturier. I'm all for not moving ANY of them unless it brings in a Pietrangelo type player. Matt Read is the best deal in the NHL, but we know he's only here for 1 year, so if it's a trade to solidify the blue line for years, I'll let him go. Also, love Schenn, but Couturier's potential is Patrice Bergeron, who's probably one my top-10 NHL players.
- jmatchett383

Why assume Read is gone, especially if one of Couturier or Schenn is gone. Someone needs to put the puck in the net. If you lose two top 6 wingers who plays with Vinnie?

I think you trade one of Coots or Laughton. G and Vinnie are 1/2 centers, and it doesn't make sense to keep Laughton at 4th center for next 3-4 years.

Do Schenn, Laughton, Coburn, McGinn/Cousins and a first.

I understand but this point always annoys me. He can still be a third line center and get PK time and PP time if he earns it. Lines are just a number. Couturier can easily get 20 minutes a night playing on the "third" line.

Pietrangelo is a pipe dream. THAT is what we need to move on from.

- MBFlyerfan

Perhaps, but even if there's the slightest chance, we've got to get involved.

I've seen The Great One moved.
I've seen Roy moved. Pronger (several times), Scott Stevens (several times), Chelios, Thornton, Iginla (from Minny), Bure, Shanahan...

Kick the tires.

I Too think st Louis is just dipping their toes in the water here to see what they can get. I'd be shocked if the trigger is pulled here

Absolutely.
And while I think he is very much worth going after, is he worth what we were offering/were asked for last year in the weber thing?

THe issue with trading for him before an OS is that STL can look for other trade partners for a few weeks which will drive the price through the roof. Gotta think Eberle + Klefbom + causes use to include Schenn and Couts

Schenn, Simmonds, Voracek, Hartnell, Giroux, and Vinny have plenty of ability to put the puck in the net. We'll be fine.

Need to remember that the cap will likely go up about 5% a year, so this next year is the only real cap issue year.

I'd sell Akeson high in a deal if at all possible. I don't see how he plays top 6 minutes on this team unless there really is a slew of injuries but many have detailed his defense, while gotten better, is still significantly below whats needed in the NHL
- sulshawn

Doubt Akeson has any trade value. One dimensional in ahl. There are lots of guys like that who are career minor leaguers. They probably trade him for some ahl fighter or mucker in 2 years.

Yes he's 5 years younger than Weber and almost just as good. We could work out a trade that only includes Coots OR Schenn. Or give STL a blank trade sheet and let them name their own price, either way it'd still be worth it or us

Seem to remember mostly the same group struggling last year. Vinny is an upgrade over Briere but not exponential. Schenn is likely gone in the trade.

I could see it easily going up at least 10% next offseason, but ya after that 5% is probably right.

Vinny face off vs Danny makes it a significant upgrade all by itself.
