i'd dump mez either way
- isaiah520

Yep. Need the space. Unfortunately, we don't know what condition any of these banged up guys are in. I realize Mez is the only one yet to be cleared to play.

Flyers new division has

Columbus
Carolina
NJD
NYI
NYR
PITT
Flyers
WASH

Only 4 make the playoffs.

With Columbus and NYI looking better, it is going to be a struggle to get in.

- Marc D

DET in the east as well...expect homer to try and make one more big move

I would keep Coburn.

The only exception I'd make is if he was packaged to bring back an upgrade/potential upgrade on D.

Otherwise I'd offer Grossmannnn and Metz up for future considerations/low draft picks.

- 77rams

for me its Grossman, slow and concussed

Ok, the offseason is far from over, but most of the big free agents are gone. So how would you rank the teams in the eastern conference?

So you have an inside scoop that nobody has approached Simon's agent?
- section32

Don't need an inside scoop. Jagr and Gagne are night and day regarding interest from teams. If you can't see that, too bad.

I don't like the Marc Streit signing but he helps the puck movement and offense coming from the defense. I think we should have waited and focused on acquiring someone much younger but it is what it is. If the Flyers can reach out and grab a young defenseman with a lot of potential without hurting what we already have, I am fine with that. Seems unlikely though. I just wanna sign Gagne and call it a summer.
- dingo8urbaby

I can see Homer wanted to get jump on Streit and get that puck moving defenseman and not lose out on his plans A, B, and C like last year. I think he put a lot of faith in Carle, Suter, Parise, Weber situations and didn't want to wait around to address the glaring need for a puck moving defenseman. Still think he looks to get younger on defense and has some assets to move since he signed Vinny Streit and Emery without giving up an asset.

Yea, I just get the feeling that those top 8 will be the ones who make the playoffs. I really have a feeling Ottawa could get the #1 seed this year in East.

Refresh me again if healthy (the slogan for Flyers D it seems) what does MAB bring to the Flyers. Who could he be compared to?
- AGL_91

Well he looks like the guys from the gas house gang in bugs bunny cartoons, if that helps.

What I remember is he was a young guy, pretty physical and big hitter, surprisingly decent shot but not a whole lot of offense, seemed to make fairly good decisions with the puck. His physical presence was the best part of his game. Big hitter. He came up the same time as Kevin Marshall. Bourdon was much more fluid skater and skilled over Marshall.

He fit well with Matt Carle for a while, mostly going up against teams lesser forwards.
Good depth guy, bottom pairing, maybe 2nd pair potential before he got hurt.

Just my impression.

Ottawa. Really?
- dingo8urbaby

Yea I really think they have a chance at getting #1 seed. I like the Ryan move and think they are well-coached and play really well as a team. If anything, I predict they will be in the top 4 in EC in points. They could battle Boston like Montreal did this season- even though they will also have to deal with Detroit too

Wasn't comparing either their individual worth to other teams or abilities. Just the situation of being asked to wait. Clearly Simon would expect to wait longer.

The best thing the Flyers can do now is leave the D alone. Luke Schenn and Erik Gustafsson are young players who are only getting better. The rest are vets who know exactly what is expected of them.

I honestly think Homer is looking for the home run trade. too many centers playing out of position. Too many Dman with health ?'s. I'm looking for Homer to make a move in the next 48 hours. Big one,
- Deasr1

PHX could use a center. Maybe if they're more reasonable than they were about Yandle, something along the lines of Coots, Read, and Coburn for OEL + could be worked out.

I really think that would be a great trade for the Flyers. i would even add another pick or prospect like Cousins to make that happen. I'm a big OEL fan.

Sometimes, as bright and shiny as the player may seem, it's best to walk away even though the cap hit fits but the years of the contract don't.

Breeze would probably still be here if he had signed for 4 years.

Homer reportedly dropped everything he was working on to pursue Vinny when he became available. I like Vinny. The length of his contract, not so much. I felt the same with Pronger.

Same with Street. I absolutely hate the length.

And I understand the market. But there was no 2013 FA market to speak of at the time both of these players were signed. Homer just gave them both an offer they couldn't refuse. What if Vinny becomes Gagne after two more years? Do we really want to pay Gagne 4.5 for three more years?

- 77rams

Look at all the UFA signings.
Guys getting top $ @ 29-34 years old.

All getting contracts that take them until they are 37-40 years old.

Most of these UFA deals are a year or two too long.
Price of doing business with UFAs.

Hold onto all your draft picks, and make the picks count.
Only way to move forward.

Nah, Kimmo's retiring you can't just leave that problem alone and hope it fixes itself. We're gonna need a new #1 guy, and while you might think guys like Bogo, Hamilton, and OEL should be untouchable, I think we have some pieces that Winnipeg, Boston, and Phoenix could definitely use, and all but Winnipeg has other really good D prospects behind their up and coming super stars.

Id rather try and steal Tyler Myers out of buffalo. He has disapointed there the last few seasons so you might be able to get him cheaper and work with him.

Could the Flyers wait until after pre-season when they put pronger on LTIR to sign gagne?
- PhillySportsGuy

Holmgren will clear cap space before that most likely. I don't think Gagne is a necessity on this team. We have plenty of young guys like Laughton, Akeson, Mcginn who can play on the 3rd/4th lines. Signing Gagne is more a benefit to Gagne and his fans than for the Flyers.
