Here's a fun fact:
If STL resigns Stewart for $4mil, then they could very barely afford to sign Pietrangelo to 7.5. They'd have about 350,000 left And my hunch is Stewart, who led their team in points last year, is going to want more than $4 mil. If Stewart gets $4.5mil, and someone offers Piet $7.5 or more, then STL would be in pretty big trouble.

I hope Pronger and L Schenn take Morin under their wings and he takes a hint about that style. A 6'7 L Schenn is a terrifying thought.
- JAKEw1234

I think it's more of an innate trait. Morin seems to have that physical trait.

They can always move guys to make room. I don't think the team would let JayBo or Halak get in the way of signing Stewart and Pietrangelo. Especially when Halak can bring back a prospect and pick.

The kid seems to have some nasty to him. Which is more than you can say about gentle giant T. Myers. 6'7" is nice with the reach and everything but if you bring the nasty along with that, thats something the other side will have in the back of their minds all game long.

That conversation had me LOL'ing. I love Ellio's -- and Orange Crush. Used to ask Mom to serve that for Flyers games when we were kids. Rarely worked.

Mesz almost certainly on his way out
The more time Lauridson stays in the AHL the better
Kimmo will be gone in a year too...

I like Mez.
He has a great quick shot from the point which they sorely lacked at times.
Also can motor the puck.

But even when he won that Barry Ashbee award, he was getting some of the softer minutes with a still pretty decent Sean O'Donnell as his partner.

I don't think he was ever a top 4 guy, but kind of a tweener.

I think Coburn's health is going to be great.
Mez's health I really am not sure at this point.
I do hope he comes back healthy.

Gervais sucks, Lauridsen still needs more AHL time and Gus is the 7th man as soon as someone gets injured (and someone will)...

Kind of expected I think since FA got started a little early with the 2 day negotiating period before FA officially began.

I'm a big Cooter supporter ( ) but I would have no issue including him in a package for AP. I'm thinking something along these lines..

Couts, Coburn, Cousins, a #1 in 2015 and a 2nd.

For

AP

That offer might not get it done but I don't think it's far from being acceptable. Maybe give them another first instead of the 2nd.

I don't agree that it's about growing up. It's about what been going on here for the past two days - letting the market judge what you are worth regardless of your age.

It's not too far fetched that if AP is shopped, he will garner a king's ransom in return and will be paid close to, if not, 7 mil per by somebody. He's a franchise defenseman and only 23 years old and there aren't many of those around. If this is a ploy to get him to reduce his demands, StL fans may end up being very disappointed.

- 77rams

There is nothing that has happened in the last few days that sets the market for Pietrangelo. And age has a lot to do with it. The players that are signing as Unrestricted Free Agents have earned that right due to either being 27 years of age, or having played 7 Accrued Seasons in the NHL. Pietrangelo has not done so. He is coming off of his EL contract. What sets the market for Pietrangelo, is the deals signed by players similar in age and ability to him. Such as P.K Subban. There is a huge difference between an RFA and a UFA. Look at a player such as Giroux. He signed a reasonable bridge contract between his EL deal and what he signed for recently. It's just rumors, but if Pietrangelo is indeed asking for 7M, I don't blame St. Louis for balking at that. 5M I can see, but not 7.

Flyers were up against the Cap last year when Holmgren OS'ed Weber. It's never impossible with Holmes in the driver seat.
- phillydentist

Holmgren is not a miracle worker. He can't make cap space appear out of thin air. The poster is correct. The Flyers don't have the cap space now to make a huge OS offer for Pietrangelo. They did have the space last year when they made the Weber offer.

They have the off season Cap exemption to spend 10% over the upper Limit like every other team does. They would have the ability to match.
