I mean in terms of roster space. They'd have to ship guys out before pulling the trigger on a deal.
- hereticpride

Well, they can probably dump some guy for picks, if the deal is good enough. Jaden Schwartz and Dimitrij Jaskin are on EL deals, so they can be sent to the AHL without waivers. They also have guys below the buried contract threshold, like Cracknell and Chorney that can be sent down and be off the cap

They could also make the Flyers taking on another player from there roster to make it work.

The west is a cakewalk while the east team that gets through will be battered
- Just5

I'd like it if we had inter-conference sister divisions that we played 5 times a year. So we play each team within our division 6 times, and each team within our sister division 5 times. It'd create more inter-conference rivalries and make sure that it's more competitive in less skilled conference.

I know what you are saying, but after watching the LA - St Louis war this year I have a hard time saying the West is a cakewalk.

I don't like the format.

Plus the 2 west divisions have one less team.

That's true. I guess what I mean is the road to the cup through the eastern conference is way way harder

I think some of the analysts and polls are excluding the buyouts from normal FA analysis. Flyers didn't make Kevin Allen's top 10 winners in FA, or ESPN winners/losers list either, and that NHL.com poll didn't even include Briere (who many said was top FA) after our buyout was announced.

Possible. Funny how they shredded the move to sign Vinny and then ignored the bad deals handed out yesterday

Take away the two 1sts and that's still more than a fair offer.

I could live with one of Coots, Brayden or Simmonds being in the deal, but not 2 of them. I'd rather it be one of Brayden/Coots or Simmonds + read, coburn instead.

Yea, when you think about it, there's not much to think about. Pull the trigger
- Just5

That's where having Paul Holmgren as the GM is important.

Some GMs are afraid to do just that: Pull the trigger. They'll talk and talk and talk but when the time comes to do that piece of business, they get cold feet and think they're giving up too much.

Holmgren knows better. He knows that there's only 8 or so defenseman in all of hockey who truly matter in all zones, on the PP and the PK.

You can't be scared to pay the price for those guys, if you're in the game. Yeah, you're gonna get bloody by the time the process is over. But with the Flyers' resources, it's easier to build around that kind of player than continually try to pretend that not having a bad-ass on defense doesn't matter.

Because it does matter.

Yup and just the fact that there are rumors about them listening tells me their is a problem with negotiations between the 2 sides. A player like AP is so rare that this should have been done Giroux style...quick, early and easy

hammer meet nail

this sums up the Flyers to a T

sure they go for it and make mistakes sometimes
they usually fix them too (at a high cost the old throw in a 2nd rounder to take this mistake off our hands and/or make cap room)

but so what, at least they are in the game

Isn't that the way it always is?

But in all seriousness, could it be said that the Flyers obtained arguably the best forward, d-man, and goalie in FA? (I'm counting Streit as if we hadn't acquired his FA rights beforehand)

What do you think it would take to get AP? I think the cost is much higher than most of these proposals.

I have to ask this cause embarrassingly I dont know. AP is an RFA...so hypothetically say we trade three top assets for him...what is stopping another team from coming in and offering a a crazy monetary deal after we trade for him? I assume they would be able to work out a deal with AP before the trade was consummated right?
