St Louis Response:

"

Thanks for the laugh Paul, it's always good to liven up these tough negotiations with a little humor.

Ok, enough with the jokes. Lets get down to business. What is your REAL first offer?"

- TheGreat28

Haha well if they really are asking for 2 top 6 forwards + then that's not too unrealistic.

I guess Horton playing from December - April > Any other player playing from October - April...

Guess Lecavalier will have no impact. He sucks.

They will want a younger forward who has more controllable years and cost certainty. Read has much more value to Philly than for any trade partner.
- TheGreat28

Not true. Read would be playing our 3rd line this year, and will bail next year to free agency because of it. Trade him now while he has value, which he does. An extension would undoubtedly be worked out before the trade happened, just how you would expect that we would work out a contract with Piets before finalizing a trade for him.

Of course he's a Flyer now, according to the rest of the hockey world we all suck and will be out of the playoffs for years to come

That's a good way to look it. Maybe one more big move is coming.
- TheGreat28

the new play off format is messed up, I no like

The top three teams in each division will make up the first 12 teams in the playoffs. The remaining four spots will be filled by the next two highest-placed finishers in each conference, based on regular-season points and regardless of division. It will be possible, then, for one division to send five teams to the postseason while the other sends three.

The seeding of the wild-card teams within each divisional playoff will be determined on the basis of regular-season points. The division winner with the most points in the conference will be matched against the wild-card team with the lowest number of points; the division winner with the second-most points in the conference will play the wild-card team with the second fewest points.

The teams finishing second and third in each division will play in the first round of the playoffs. The winners of each series will play for berths in the Conference Championship series.

The two divisional champions in each conference will then play in the conference finals to advance to the Stanley Cup Final.

Dustin Leed ‏@D_LEED 1m
RT @mikedeej97: @D_LEED Whats your ideal, realistic offer to STL? / Couturier, Coburn, Read and a first.

Would people be okay with that? Is that a fair deal?

- stveshdy

That's steep...but yeah, I'd pay it.

This kind of player only becomes available every five to seven years, via trade. It's so hard to get a right-shot defenseman with size, who can skate, who can defend, who isn't soft...it's so hard to find these guys. He's just 23 years old.

Yes, it's a steep price. Painful.

But I'd absolutely pay it.

Just checked capgeek. The Blues dont even have room to add an extra two players on their roster. How is a 3 for 1 going to work?

I don't think Gagne is a necessity on this team. We have plenty of young guys like Laughton, Akeson, Mcginn who can play on the 3rd/4th lines. Signing Gagne is more a benefit to Gagne and his fans than for the Flyers.

I mean in terms of roster space. They'd have to ship guys out before pulling the trigger on a deal.

I know what you are saying, but after watching the LA - St Louis war this year I have a hard time saying the West is a cakewalk.

I don't like the format.

Plus the 2 west divisions have one less team.

I think some of the analysts and polls are excluding the buyouts from normal FA analysis. Flyers didn't make Kevin Allen's top 10 winners in FA, or ESPN winners/losers list either, and that NHL.com poll didn't even include Briere (who many said was top FA) after our buyout was announced.
