Seem to remember mostly the same group struggling last year. Vinny is an upgrade over Briere but not exponential. Schenn is likely gone in the trade.
- TheGreat28

Seem to remember that group getting older and better. It's a group of kids. They won't struggle forever as if they were all in their 30s. Our core players are at the beginning of their careers.

I think stl will ask for cooter and Simmonds + and flyers will be hard pressed not to give it. Uggghhhhh

If anyone in here says they would not do Couturier, Coburn a 1st and 2nd for Petro you are absolutely crazy. I would take that and run.

So, would you deal G straight up?
- nails

No that was a hyperbole, but you get my point. The price would have to be astronomical for it to not be worth it for our long term plans.

I don't think St. Louis takes that offer.

Have to probably add Read to it.

Couturier, Read, Coburn, pick is the max deal for me.
- stveshdy
I think St L would want Schenn Bros, Simmonds and 2014 #1

Add Read to that and it's more realistic. But I would still do it.

If all you dealt was G, and kept everything else in tact, you wouldn't consider it?

Probably not that actually don't need another defender, believe it or not.

Flyers new division has

Columbus
Carolina
NJD
NYI
NYR
PITT
Flyers
WASH

Only 4 make the playoffs.

With Columbus and NYI looking better, it is going to be a struggle to get in.

- Marc D

That's a good way to look it. Maybe one more big move is coming.

Well the problem is G will be paid $8.25 starting next season. The reason STL is rumored to be shopping Piet at all is cause they don't want to pay him over $7.

If you can get Pietrangelo without dealing Giroux, Voracek or multiple 1st's you do it.

No just add Coburn and dump Mez to another team. He has no value to STL in a blockbuster trade like this. Coburn has good value, but taking Coburn out and adding Mez is the same thing as just taking Coburn. Mez is worthless at this point.

Yup.
But, once the cap goes up and the lose mister over paid on the back end, they may be good with having a franchise center making that cash.

More realistically would have to add another first round pick. St. Louis like 45 right handed powerplay forwards, so I dont think they need Read.

I am saying that read adds the value that mez doesn't bring.
And Mez is an expiring contract.

Did they buy anyone out?

St Louis Response:

"

Thanks for the laugh Paul, it's always good to liven up these tough negotiations with a little humor.

Ok, enough with the jokes. Lets get down to business. What is your REAL first offer?"

Poll from NHL.com:

Which recently signed free agent will have the biggest effect on his new team?

Daniel Alfredsson, Detroit:
23.41%
Nathan Horton, Columbus:
24.42%
Ray Emery, Philadelphia:
21.11%
Stephen Weiss, Detroit:
18.18%
Mike Komisarek, Carolina:
12.88%

I guess Horton playing from December - April > Any other player playing from October - April...

No they didn't. And we'd have to give Read and Coburn in the deal so just drop that thought. Mez will not be a trade piece involved in a trade that brings back anything of real value.

They will want a younger forward who has more controllable years and cost certainty. Read has much more value to Philly than for any trade partner.
