Sure there is a choice. You don't have to outright win every trade. Addition by subtraction is a thing. - Pierceme69
You don't trade your starting goaltender just to trade him by that logic though. He isn't Drew Stafford |

Because he's a below average goalie getting paid too much. - sambarugh
Below average, really?

He got a first for Goose at the deadline. He got a good return for Pommer at the deadline. If he can't resign Vanek he will get a better deal for him. Proven goal scorers at the deadline are a hot commodity for a team looking to make a run. We will get one or two real good prospects a 1st round pick and maybe even a roster player for him at the deadline - Stripes77
I want to keep Vanek so I'll be happy if he stays but I think Miller should've been moved already. |

Blues are close to signing Filippula. Stewart and Peirrangelo needs to be signed. Offer sheet anyone? Anyone. Sorry for the spelling I'm exhausted - Stripes77
No way. The Sabres might have a top 5 pick next year so no way you offer sheet now. |

not in this case it isnt. I fail to see how giving Ryan Miller away is a good thing. |

Cullen, hendricks, nystrom, and stalhberg is a nice day?
They are all bottom 6 guys.. - JVince11
all solid role players so yes I think that is a nice day. |

I think the point is that you should take the best offer you find, and focus on building the team up from the youth. Ryan Miller does nothing for Buffalo's future, and not enough for Buffalo's present. He's gotta go, for whatever (assuming pick(s) or prospect(s)) you can get. Gotta go before the season starts. - truthbluth
So, a veteran all-star, silver medalist, Vezina winning goaltender does nothing for young upcoming players? I disagree. |

Pay a portion of Vanek's contract if need be...
Q. What's the best part of having Big Poppa Pockets Pegula as an owner?
A. We can think bigger. - SuperCat
Again, Pegula was asked about if he would be willing to do things like that. He did not sound to interested in it.
But.but he said he is not in this to make money. He is not dumb either. He is not going to keep throwing money away. |

The longer he stays, the smaller the goalie Market becomes. - ImThatGuy
That's not necessarily true. Injuries, roster changes, etc., change the landscape all the time. If Ryan Miller ends up walking and the Sabres get nothing in return, then I will be angry. Until that happens, I refuse to be bothered by it. |

the only offer sheet I consider is 1 between 1.6 and 3.3 mil per. Thats the 2nd round pick compensation, in which Buffalo has 3 of those |

Yes. Whether Ryan Miller gets traded today, in September, or even midseason doesn't matter to me one bit. - buffalofan19
The problem is that we sat around and watched all the teams who were desperate for goalies sign goalies. That would have been the time to get the best return. Now it will be harder to get the overpayment Darcy will want. And if you go into the season and he gets injured, you risk him walking away for nothing. You can't let that happen. |

Stealing a Garth suggestion? You're better than that. - Pierceme69
Oh crap that's a Garth suggestion. I need sleep. Obviously I didn't read his blurp. But in all seriousness why not send Miller and player x to the blues for Halak and the rights to one of those guys? They can't sign both |

false. It's shocking how (frank)ing false this is. - truthbluth
I'm just getting folks worked up. Don't worry. I don't like Miller but I know he's not below average.
Personally I wouldn't pay a goalie what he makes and I would say he's like a 7/10 based on a league wide comparison. |

So, a veteran all-star, silver medalist, Vezina winning goaltender does nothing for young upcoming players? I disagree. - Dwight K. Schrute
In the abstract, sure. But Ryan Miller's relationship to the fanbase and the local media has poisoned that asset. I don't personally believe that it can be saved. |

Accepting less trade value this year as opposed to him walking for nothing next year is hands down a better outcome. |

Most of those so-called "desperate" teams re-signed their own goaltenders. Other than Cory Schneider, which was an absolute steal for New Jersey, just about every one of those teams addressed their goaltending problems by not giving up assets for them. |

To be honest and fair, the local media is a joke. As for Miller speaking his mind, it doesn't bother me. Plus, only his lockerroom presence is all that matters. How he helps guide the young guys trumps fans and media. |

Is Darcy ensuring we get the #1 overall next year? That's how it looks to me. (frank) Darcy. He's going to screw up with Miller too. We're going to end up getting fu(k all for him. |

Wow do you actually think that this team as currently constructed can compete? If so, then I can't make the arguments that I'm making. The premise to my argument is that the Sabres are years away from being competitive again. If you think differently, then we are coming from different places. |

Same thing was said about the Sens a couple years ago. |
