being able to finance and write checks is different from the GM managing the teams roster, cap space, and turnover, considering all he does is trade these contracts out or buy them out within 2-3 years

What about Henrik Karlsson? Was he that terrible in Rockford? He seems like he could be a pretty solid number two, and we have him signed until next 14-15. I know he wasn't going to get a very good chance to start playing second fiddle to kipper in Calgary (which are the only instances i've seen him). - wildcatgoal
I was wondering that too... Is he not an option? That Raanta kid we just signed has quite the resume. Might be a diamond in the rough. |

Nick Leddy's salary is 2.7 per year for two years., 5.4 total....
I like your thinking, but that likely prices Roszival out of a Hawks sweater.
- Kentxo
Rosey's opinion of staying/going you just have to wonder.,,
He took such a beating and this was his first Cup, right?
So, he is 35 in September, and when I started going to games that was when defensemen were starting their prime, but a different game so much more North-South and no five man coverages.
This is a guy who when the Rangers decided they needed him, pay FIVE mil a year for four years.
Does he want to win again?
Or does he want to go soemwhere else?
I could see how teams would now view him as a favorable option, and if he is looking for soem last deal, with the shrunking Cao he may not find it excpet for a team that is forced to spend more to get their Cap UP to the mininum...
i would feel better if he did, but they ARE hot give Left Sider Ryan Stanton a chance too... |

hey , ummmm,
any hawk news or are the flyers making all the hay?
while we are all celebrating the cup, we won it with a few breaks our way in a 48 game season. I hope SB plans on bolstering his bottom 6 and adding some atitude & red ass in that mix, we are going back to an 82 game season next year & we play everybody! I don't think some of ourr skill is gonna want to take an ass pounding night in & night out with out some help ! hopefully he's looking at guys like hendricks, gordon, clowe , chipchura, konopka , powe & a few others.
anybody know if they are bringing rosival back? no F'n way I want my 5-6 pairing to be brookbank & stanton. would you guys take a flyer on Komisarek? he's another 1 that got caught up in that toronto mess. I think he'd be more comfortable playing here in a 5-6 role vs. the hornets nest in toronto, yes/no?
is karlsson a legit backup?, why do I keep feeling Rick DiPietro is lurking somewher close1 PPHHUUCCKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Sure, but Ed Synder is one of those owners that has a big say on personnel that comes to his team. |

Emery to the Flyers made sense for awhile.
Raanta isn't coming to Chicago unless they are 110% sure he is ready. With a $1.4 million NHL cap hit there will be other back ups available for less.
Raanta can learn the ropes in Rockford and cost the Hawks only $70 K in addition to his bonus.
There will be some goalie movement in the next couple of days, and Bowman will be wtching closely to see what falls through the cracks.

Good for Ray. Amazing comeback story, and he has earned the right to entertain the highest, if dumbest bidders. He's got to be on an unknown health clock, so it has to be about money first for him.
No worries. There are a few good and reasonably priced backups to be had out there. Raanta is not ready to backup Crawford. Never played a game on North American ice. He'll need at least a half of a season to get a feel for it.
Khudobin or Bachman best targets IMHO. And H is for humble. |

Either way, we're going to need a capable backup next year, and from what i've been reading Raanta is going to need year to adjust. |

Roszy can still fit unless he is looking or can get a really big raise.
If not now or by the deadline the Hawks will likely have to find someone with the same profile.

I'd sooner take a tandem of Brookbank & Stanton over Komisarek. Komisarek is bordering John Scott slow. He doesn't help here.
Karlsson is returning to Sweden. I wouldn't expect Hutton back, with the signing of Raanta.
I doubt DiPietro could find a two way deal. I think he'll end up with an AHL deal somewhere, and will have to prove himself there. |

Really want to see Hawks convince Kuba to come here on the cheap, they could use his size, physicality, and shot on the blue line |

Karlsson signed to play in Europe. He was a band aid. Never really showed anything in the NHL and is OFF the table.
Losing Waite is a big deal. He was regarded as one of the top G coaches in the league. I hope they hire a strong replacement. Very important for Raanta's development.
Raanta should not be Crow's back up. He needs to get serious starts in the AHL to be evaluated. If Emery is getting $3m plus then God bless the guy and good bye.
Emery could be a steadying influence on Mason but pretty hard to see him playing 50 games without problems. Really was looking forward to him beating Jackman's ass some time next season though.

Too slow. Does not fit like Rozy did. Rozy has up ice vision and passing skills that few of the 35ish crowd have. Maybe the Slovak mafia can convince him to stick around.

Ricky D. could do what Emery did and play overseas...Not that he needs the money but it would be a lot more than an AHL salary. |

One thing about these trades and the draft - Western conference division B is getting stronger. Dallas and Colorado definitely better next season. Columbus - if they get Fillipula and Horton could be tough and Nashville with Weber and Jones....

Waite is well thought and I don't know who is coming in but....The front office shouldn't have been caught off guard with him going to the Habs. |

Going back home and the Bergevin connection...The bread crumbs were there, most likely they saw it coming.
The position was vacant in Montreal for awhile. |

not to mention Price is an immense talent and they have invested a lot in him
was probably only a Stephane Waite mentor away from being a vezina goalie IMO |
