Bill Hoppe says Gerbe "had no warning" per his agent, so definitely not mutual - CaptPantalones
When Gerbe never had a growth spurt as a teenager and stayed at 5' 5" he should have always been on guard for being cut. |

They didnt/cant use a compliance buyout on gerbe so they didnt waste anything - robz228
Oh...well how the hell... |
|
|
|
When you have $14 million in cap space... why would you think that saving another $1.5 million is something they would need to do to make a deal and/or sign someone? They have plenty of space. Today or Friday, I believe, from watching NHL Tonight is the deadline for doing buyouts... so maybe there is something to it. - djc1877
It is probably more about the roster spot than the cap hit |

This is kinda crazy. From reading here most fans werent to high on him. But shouldnt they be buying out Leino. Not the small cap hit. - poisondhearts37
I assume they want to give leino another year and then its bye bye if he cant turn it around. I don't see us being in any cap trouble in the next year so its a not a big deal. |

I agree it ain't about the $$, he just doesn't fit anywhere on this team. I loved him when he first came into the NHL but he just hasn't scored enough and is too small to have an impact on the 3rd/4th line. |

Why waste a buyout for 1.5 mil when Stafford is worthless an gets 4? - Orphen22
OK. I know I'm gonna get poop for this but here goes.
Staff had a bad season, as did Myers and 3/4's of the team. Who would you rather have, a 5'5" spark-plug that get his ass creamed every other shift, or a streaky stafford who can possibly pot you 20 to 30 playing top 6 minutes.
This buy out is not about money. It's the roster spot. I wish Gerbe the best of luck.
I'd take stafford and his 4 million over gerbe's roster spot anyday of the week.
Now TROPP till you DROP!!!!! |

Lets get some things straight here people if u believe that any of the big name or even mid-range free agents are coming here to Tudor the kids u have another thing coming. I don't see us landing anyone of significance to help this current roster. U thought last year was bad its going to get much worse. |

Forget cap trouble. Leino was never good. He was on a stacked Philly team that was playing super good. Would be a big deal if Buff keeps giving him a chance and then your stuck with him. |

He played mostly 4th line as a rookie & produced
I hope he gets a shot somewhere else
And if he didn't get a call first,
That's fd up |

I'd rather watch the kids lose than the garbage that was on the ice last season. In that sense, it won't be worse. |

This should be obvious. Who is going to want to come to a rebuilding team? Neither Ehrhoff or Leino would have signed a few years ago if they knew where the Sabres would be now. I don't want big name FA's signed here anyway. Time to tank for ? |

I think by saying that they are clarifying that it wasnt mutual termination, it was a Sabres buyout |

Unless something else is up, i just dont understand it. He had one year left, no?They only save them selves 900K in cap room this year and use 478K next year to buy him out.
It is not like this team is in cap trouble. |
