One thing is for sure,we've wanted another right handed defenseman and Blum and Weber were not qualified today, I'd take a flyer on either |

for a guy like skinner, i wouldn't like it but sure. - rangerdanger94
You wouldnt like a Staal for Skinner trade? Though it just adds to your cap problems. |
|
|
|
I DIDN'T SAY anything about bringing in another mercenary but some wiggle room to tinker would have been nice, plus the RFAs of our own that need to be taken care of. - B2B76
There is enough room to bring all the RFAs in and retain Richards. Next summer Richards and several other contracts will be off the books, which will ensure the team in retaining Hank, Callahan and Girardi. |

As opposed to retaining Eminger, I am assuming. |

The Leafs are very interested in Staal. If I were Sather and Co., I would listen. I am very skeptical about Staal's ability to regain his form prior to his eye injury. |

The trades are fine, I'm more referring to giving Pyatt Asham and Boyle one year too much which straps rookies finding a spot. - Ranger71
I think Boyle has a nice bounce back season. Vigneault got a lot out of Manny Malhotra, why can't Boyle have a similar renaissance? |

It's more that I wouldn't like giving up staal because im so high on him but that would be a fair trade imo. |

Oh I want Pyatt and Powe gone... Boyle I can live with for one more year, he is good on faceoffs and PK.
I want to see Kyle Jean get a shot on that 4th line if he makes it through camp. |

Man I remember when the Kings drafted him. I put so much hype into him. Thought it was gonna be great to a giant on the team. He never got a real shot then we tried him at defense. Which wasnt terrible. Then that first big year in NYR I was all. You gotta be kidding me. Then he fell back to earth. Still a decent 4th liner. |

I like Ulf coming back into the fold, we'll see if he can put some nasty into the D. |

You can't entertain trading Staal, until its known if he play period. No one is going to trade for him without knowing he's game ready. If he is healthy and ready to play I would deal MDZ instead. I also feel its a deal they can make now if they choose,

He has his stretches where he looks good, and others where he is terrible. The frustrating thing about the guy is that he's huge, but just doesn't use his size well. I do have to give it to him, however, he is a fearless shotblocker and a good penalty killer. He also plays his best in the playoffs, so that is always a good attribute.
He makes a little too much for a fourth line center, however. Hard to pay a fourth liner almost $2 million per year. |

I feel the same exact way... actually with Blum and Weber now available RH shots. I would dump him + a couple prospects go get a solid LW for the top 6. Sign Blum or Weber to play 3rd pair defense. |

Pete I was looking at the list of Non qualified players and saw Ottawa let Caporusso walk, any thoughts?
Also according to the list Ferreiro wasn't qualified by Minnesota, why trade for him? |

Clearly they hope last year was an aberration and with a new year new coach he'll return to form. And if he doesn't they can always buy him out next year. Considering how weak the free agent market is and the ridiculous contracts these guys are getting it's probably not a bad idea.
And how mad would Rangers fans be if Brad Richards returned to form playing for the Flyers with the Rangers paying most of his salary. |

i don't think DZ is a player we just "dump" with a couple prospects for a solid LW. i think DZ, on his own, could warrant a player like blake wheeler (winnipeg isn't the ideal trading partner though), david perron (not sure if st. louis wants defense or offense for him), troy brouwer, or maybe even couturier. or if we throw in a 1st and a prospect, someone like pavelski.
only issue is that DZ is signed for a great value so we'll be even higher up against the cap with any deal unless they're willing to absorb salary or pyatt/powe's contract. |
