Never defensive with you Robin.. or Iggy for that matter.. I have no need for him.. on the Leafs.
It is a two way street.. and we want to win... - DoctorNHL
Yeah? You think that makes the Leafs unique?

Man oh man... This many pages about iginla and why he would or wouldn't come to Toronto...
It's very simple. He won't. He is only going to sign with legit contenders here on out.. He'll try to get his cup before he retires. That's it, that's all.
Toronto isn't on his short list, not even on his long one. - Dozzer
Agreed fully.. don't know why he is getting so much attention.. in this off-season..
He doesn't want the Leafs.. and to be frank the Leafs don't want him either.
I agree on both accounts..

Let me get this straight the highest level is where a bunch of players get mashed together and in one week are supposed to build a team game. Not a league that plays 80+ games and then takes 4 rounds to decide a champ. - DoctorNHL
A bunch of players? The best players IN THE WORLD.
When you start out a career in any sport, the ultimate goal is to win a gold medal in the Olympics. |

The team that lands Vinny won't be the one that offers him the most dollars per year, but the longest term.
He'll get 5 years at 5 per year and I'd consider that an overpayment. 37/38 year old Lecavalier will not be worth 5 million per year.
Clarkson is probably looking for the same. That 5 year, $25 million mark seems to be the magic number. Going over that line for either would be an overpayment.
I still think the market isn't great for FAs. Clarkson will come in around 4.5.
Bozak won't get anywhere close to 5 per year. He should have signed a deal with the Leafs before all these names started coming on to the market.
With Ribiero, Vinny, Briere, Weiss, and Stastny (kind of) all available, there's no way Bozak is anything but a distant consolation prize. |

Leafs will always be unique... with the most hockey fans on the planet.. and a league that doesn't care for them.. many talking points.
Hence why you love the Leafs thread...

I mostly agree, but I don't think any kids playing road hockey pretend to win a gold medal... It's the Cup

Actually I prefer the World Cup in Football... Olympics is for amateurs even if they are pros.. it is a team game.. it takes much more time...

That's true but not necessarily set in stone. I'd say in North America its a lot more true, but less so in Europe. |

Guaranteed money with no issues.. the only thing Gary cares about is dropping another team here in the next 10 years.. as it will mean 500 mil in his coffer...
With Rogers & Bell owning the Leafs it is perfect time for it.. they each own one.. and get huge money...

I would never wish anything bad on anyone.. but he deserves every boo he gets...
The Leafs had a deal with Tampa for the third pick to buy-out LeCav... and Daley sprouted out straight away as it was circumvention of the cap.. meanwhile the Isles grabbed Thomas to make the floor.. and NJ sent dudes down yearly to stay below.. why is it that when the Leafs use their muscle it is wrong.. but every other team can do what they have to do...
Screw Gary.. - DoctorNHL

Re: Vinny - I'm not so sure you are correct.
Based upon absolutely no inside knowledge, I am going to make the wacky, wild prediction that Vinny signs a 1- or 2-year deal.
Which paves the way for him to return to Tampa. |

Every line an Olympic champion puts out there is an all-star first line.
You'd have guys like Stalberg and Bollig matching up against Stamkos. Every single shift. |

Didn't even think they had golf in the olympics
And I guess team sports and geography are factors.
I wouldn't call my statement "so wrong." When all I had to do was change "any" sport to "most" sports.

I would say that if the NHL team had 82 games together, and Team Canada was thrown together, it might be a heckuva lot closer than you might think. |

That would be the other extreme, but could happen.
My gut feeling is that Vinny hates this stuff. He hates these negotiations and the whole song and dance drama. I think he's looking for his last pro contract.
Either way, if our offer is 3 years at 6 million per, I don't think we have a good shot at all. It's precisely what he is not looking for. |

It is a team sport.. Pitts got swept in 4 with an allstar roster... it would be so easy.. you guys forget it is a team sport and it takes time to develop a team..
The Soviet Union used to put together a team to take out the NHl's teams.. they played together like a team... that is why they could compete.
The Blackhawks would destroy team Canada as a team.
