and again the point you seemed to miss... HE STILL WONT COME HERE! - DarcyTucker16
Not the argument, simply telling you, Iginla is a better player. A better option for our 2nd line. Clarkson is overrated, and will be overpaid, greatly. |

Bryan Bickell just got $4M from the Blackhawks, I can only imagine what Clarkson and Horton will both get on the open market. |

I like the Bolland move because he is a winner at all levels.. Iggy is a loser.. even on a stacked team...

I didnt say Iggy wasnt a better player... The argument is over whether we should sign clarkson or not... you brought up youd rather sign iggy... and along with multiple other points about why iggy wouldnt work here the last point was he wont sign here... |

That's not the point of his post at all. I believe what he's getting at is you need tough players who have a bit of game and can be put out for more than a few minutes per game. Not just cement head plugs who have a very specific/narrow role.
Its good to have a tough presence on the ice alongside skilled players, and its a role better suited to forwards rather than possibly losing one 6th of your defense for 5 minutes for having to stick up for one of the skilled guys. - BlueBallz
I get that, I can see why Clarkson makes sense. I'm just saying those guys can be replaced within regardless of clarkson. Not in disagreement, just adding the point. |

Good move grabbing Bolland, good versatile centre, knows how to play with big shooters. Still wondering when the defensive help is coming... - aminnes
Bolland was a boat anchor on that 2nd line.
He was a -23.3 Relative Corsi with ~50% of his starts coming in the offensive zone.
Bolland excels in a defensive/shutdown role, but hasn't yet shown the chops to play a more offensively focused role - even paired with supremely talented offensive players.
If he was brought in to play 3rd line minutes, you'll get exactly what you expected. If he was brought in to do more, you'll likely end up disappointed.

Iggy has never been on a stacked NHl team. No, the Pens weren't stacked with that goaltending and defense. And Calgary overachieved if anything in 04'. |

I completely agree, he is a solid player but not worth more than $3M and that's a stretch. I guess they are paying for the intangibles. |

How do explain the 4 game sweep in Pittsburgh.. with a stacked team?
The Leafs did more with less...

The reason Phaneuf got traded in the first place, was because Iginla/Conroy went to management and said "Either he gets traded or we get traded"
Iginla will not come to Toronto, with Phaneuf here. End of Story. - brandon2743
woo hoo, so they are trading Phaneuf |

He'll be playing third line with McClement and Kulemin. But, if theres an injury or something he can plug in. Certainly the rubbish one author put on a sports web that he can play on the first line regularly is dumb. |

yes because that was solely iggys fault... how do you explain 04' when he took a team that shouldnt have made it all the way to game 7 of teh cup finals? how do you explain the clutch assist on the golden goal... how do you explain his double memorial cup victories in junior? dont talk |

You did say Clarkson was better. The Iginla/Phaneuf reports were never confirmed, just rumors. Iginla is a better value at 5 million per then Clarkson, my argument. |

We are a long way away from your estimation... it is a team game I agree.. but with a team stacked to win.. they lost horribly.. that rests with all the players... including Iggy, who has never won.. at least some of the others won.. |
