Clowe was making 3.625 million on his last deal. Doubt he takes a pay cut to 3.2 million. Rangers can't keep him.

Due to a shrinking salary cap and Clowe’s recent health issues, the Blueshirts are expected to seek a discount from Clowe’s annual $3.625 million cap hit from his expiring contract in order to retain his services. But on breakup day, Clowe admitted he would consider taking a pay cut to remain a Ranger, if necessary.

“I’m not exactly sure what a pay cut would be, but I’m open to negotiating to find a way to stay here, there’s no question about that,” Clowe said. “I enjoyed it here. You start to form a little bit of a bond, I guess, with the team and the guys. We’ll see what happens, but I feel like this team has the nucleus and the core, and then obviously a guy like Hank in net. Everyone wants to win in New York, and it would be great.”

Great when it works for ottawa sun and it writes full columns on the happens of the NHL, then you can tell me what it knows. Is Bruce Garrioch a bit of an idiot, sometimes. But I'll take his word before your left foot's work. Unless you're like this guy.

You must not be familiar with Mr. Garrioch's work or the general content of the Ottawa Sun. Classy publication.

I am pretty disappointed. Need the cap space, and have to hope he stays healthy

It's a no brainer that they will trade the pick for an immediate NHL'er!!!

We have yet to see how bad we got (frank)ed...

We will find out soon enough whether they were kind enough to use lube, or just straight ram rodded us with a pipe.

since we are ill the projected slaray talk with Richards now in the fold. Idk how the Rangers sign Clowe even if Hags and Zuc take a bit of a discount.

Crazy the Rangers don't have 1 forward making under 1 million. Hell even the healthy scratch Powe will be taking over a mill off the cap by just sitting in the press box

And I gave Zuccs, Hags and Steps a bit of "hometown" discount.

The Rangers may decide not to pay the 4th line center almost 2 million anymore. And Pyatt, Power and Asham can all potentially be moved.

As in less than they made last season or just less than market value increases over what they made last season?

Rangers games stress me out enough. Now I have to hold my breathe every time Richards is on the ice. Even if he puts big numbers this season he still has to go after next season for the sake of the franchise. I hope they win the cup this year, or this is a big mistake lol

All three made under 900k. Stepan is this team's best center, it's certainly within his right to ask for a contract of 4 million or more I gave him the same exact AAV that Giroux got on his 2nd pro contract. Hags made 875k last year, he would now make 200k more than Pyatt. Hagelin is probably worth 3 of of Pyatt. Zuccarello made 700k last year and he's coming a playoff where he was arguably the teams 2nd or 3rd best player.

Stepan just led the team in points and made 875K, yes, less than market value

Thanks for the clarification. Hopefully Stepan doesn't have the same agent as Ryan O'Reilly then...

With the Rangers cap situation, I wonder if other GMs will drop offer sheets on your RFAs.

Stepan 80pt pace, top 4 PK, top 3 2way defensive forward, top scorer, top Center, and u think he will sign for less than Cally did 4 years ago when Cally was a 50pt player?? You need to understand how contracts work in the NHL, it's about comparables. Find any player 70-80pts and plays in all situations and centers top line that signs for less than 5M

RFAs only have so much leverage unless Jay Feaster is planning to offer sheet them.
