I wish people would research recapture possibilities before stating what "any owner with a brain" would do...

If we keep him past this offseason, our circumvention benefit (aka figure for recapture penalty) continues to grow through 2017/18... Then when we are forced to trade him later (or sit him on our bench until he decides to retire), the recapture possibilities are even worse (much worse) than they are now.

He'd have to play out his FULL contract here or elsewhere for it to be worth the gamble and I don't think he will.

Buy him out... Then turn around and offer his cap hit to LeCavalier.

Even if the Nucks buyout Lou and Ballard they have no room to sign Vinny. That would leave them with 9.5 million to sign another 8 players to fill out the roster.

I realize that, the funny thing is that so many of you seem to believe his ridiculous proposals are equal value for both sides.

The reason you get so many different team's fans in here is that the majority of your posters need to be corrected on what Luongo's value actually is.

Then the next day there's another laughable rehash of the same thing.

Trading Schneider is the best way out of this situation for Gillis, providing he's talked to Luongo and received a guarantee that if they keep him he'll report and continue to play for the team. If Gillis hasn't talked to him about that and moves Schneider... it could be awful for the Canucks if Luongo continues to demand a trade.

some of them are, I'll give you that. Some of them still are in major denial about Luo's lack of value due to the contract. If they buy him out they still have schneider who I believe is a much more technically sound goaltender and will continue to be solid for a lot longer than Luongo will be. The issue is whether or not Gillis is determined to get assets back. If he wants a return he'll need to move schneider which long term could be a bad thing for the Canucks. If he buys out Luo he'll have to eat crow and admit he made a series of bad mistakes. I think his ego is too large to do that.
