No, Luongo was always going to play a bunch. He's a great goalie and with the condensed schedule that was always the plan. Schneider was 4th in save% and 7th in GAA. If you remove game 1, where he "cacked," Schneider would have had the 2nd best GAA last season. Since when does game 1, with no pre-season, mean you aren't a starting goalie???

can't remove games to compare stats. they are what they are, take away 1-2 games from most goaltender's stats and they'd be much better.

I still think schneider is a solid #1 but taking away games is bs.

Seems like he's saying if you're not Yzerman then there's no way you can be as connected as he is. My assumption is that he must be Gillis. Which makes a ton of sense now.

BTW...do you think Vinnie will sign a 1 year deal so he can return to TB in 2014? Or will this be his last contract?

- djamon

no chance. he was pretty passionate in his interview. he wants to prove them wrong and I think he will. the caps should be all over his ass.

Everyone seems to assume that he'll sign a one year deal and come back, but his words yesterday on the conference call indicate that he's ready to move. He said numerous times that it was time to do so, and that he wants a contract that will take him to retirement. He plans on continuing work with his charitable foundation in Tampa in addition to moving back when he's finished playing. Tampa is home.

If you took away every Schneider loss, he would have been undefeated.

Schneider ended up having a great year...no doubt. I don't think it was the plan to play Luongo as much as they did, though.

My point is that he had one bad game and played great the rest of the year, which is contrary to the point put up by Mr. Leafs fan who said he cacked the bed at the start of the year and wasn't the true number one for the rest of the season. It was one bad game. That's all I'm trying to show.

Bob's numbers in his first 2 NHL seasons were below average. He had a great season this year where he played 38 games. He has not shown more than Cory.
- KB3Point0

Cory has never played more than 33 games in a season. Bad arguement to use.

No, they would have preferred Schneider start 1, or both, of the last 2 regular season games. Unfortunately he was hurt.

I can agree with that, I think schneider played well last year minus the playoffs.

I'm pretty sure schneider would be viewed as a legit nhl starter by anyone not trying to rip the canucks apart. He's a very technically sound goalie with good reflexes and rebound control. Luongo is a good first save goalie, then he ends up on his face instead of staying square to the shooter. I like schneider a hell of a lot more.

Can't take away games but you can question other things... Like how AV pulled Schneider after 2 goals on 2 shots in 2mins VS Edmonton. That kind of thing doesn't continue throughout the game... He should've been given the opportunity to ride it out. A 3rd goal? Maybe pull him... But taking him out after 2mins with a 0.00 save% on the hook for a loss that was FAR from decided, had an effect on his cumulative stats IMO.

Look at the stats this year smart a$$. You think Ward, or Price or even Luongo was better than Reimer this year?

Keep chirping kid.

By the same token Schneider was never left in to take one for the team like Luongo was...twice. He seemed to be protecting Schneider more than anything.

That isn't protecting Schneider, it's hanging Luongo out to dry. It's crap coaching.

Good point. Given their playoff success of the last decade, Leaf fans are experts in things like game 7. All the tough playoff series they have been a part of during the last 10 years finally paid off in these past playoffs when they could rely on their playoff experience during the pressure of game 7. They rose to the occasion led by the best goalie in the country. Brilliant display of heart.

I agree. It almost seemed personal to me.

But you hear people say that...when the team is off you pull the goalie as a means of protecting him a little. Schneider got pulled in that Oiler game, then Lu was left in to get bombed while Bieksa stood and watched.

SOME of it is just opinion. Usually in my posts what I'll do is give the facts and then supplement the facts with my opinion. It's how I win so many arguments around here.
