Also, this:

If you guys think the blueline was pitiful by season's end due to injuries, imagine what a Coburnless Flyer D-corps would look like, even before the injuries!

- Giroux_Is_God

It doesn't matter.. we have Mason to save us.. until his first bad game that is..

amen. i think homer's on a short leash, but ed def pushed for that signing and shares the blame.
- isaiah520

I don;t think he's on a shorter leash, but I do feel if they miss the playoffs again, Homer's out of a job

I've laid out capgeek rosters the last 3 summers that have been better than Holmers. I deserve a shot at it, to make it right

Plenty others on here do too

- Just5

In terms of playoff rounds won, there's maybe 5 guys that have done better than Holmgren.

I agree.
As bad a season as Coburn had, he still played big minutes.
I don't like dumping Mez for a late round pick but that is the play unless they have another top 4 D coming back.

I really hope there is some plan with the goalies and D.

I think the forwards only need a tweak or two, but if they mess up again on D and in net I will be disappointed.

If Leighton is back or
We see Gervais or Lauridesen starting the season as the #6 D then they have failed

Ugh

- Marc D

I can totally see Emery back, and Lauridsen or Gervais as the 6.. It's going to be hard for Homer to get rig of Coburn for solid assets, and then acquire another dman to replace him adequately.. this is going to take some real juggling.

Coburn being shopped has gone viral though. This is going down it seems

The Problem is that they'll be older

I hope Grossmann and Mez are ready for 82 games

I am pessimistic about trading Coburn for picks or another forward

The in depth reviews I've read about him have been quite the opposite. I think people are reading far too much into his lack of psychicality as a knock on his defensive zone play.
- hereticpride

Pulock has worked to develop his physical game...he seems to recognize his areas of need and work to improve them...

"I've stepped up my game in the physical area and I think it has helped me" - Ryan Pulock

More than one scout/observer this season has mentioned his physical game:

"Good open ice hitter" - ISS

"Pulock does play physically willing to throw hits in open ice or if an opponent tries to get by him along the boards." - Ben Kerr

"Throughout this season he has been well above-average defensively displaying a calming style in his own end which has been aided by his great stick positioning and solid body checks." - Patrick Bedell

The man is just a winner. He may be older, but far more consistent in his own defensive zone I think he could compliment Streit or Gus well.

coby and gus are the only guys we have w/ any wheels. don't like the idea of dumping a dman like coby for salary reasons- this is not a good d as it is.

unless he has a brother to play with in Philly, no,

no Shero, no assets for you

just read it, imagine how stupid that would be, trading assets for him for one year & he could go right back to Pittsburgh, no, this shouldn't be a rumor, it's beyond stupid, Rutherford could do it, because Jordan wanted to play with Eric, done deal.

Where this makes sense is if we traded Coburn, then traded Read and 11 for say the 6 and Calgary's 2nd. This would mean we are targeting a Dman in the draft that we expect to make the team and make an impact.

If the rumor is true that Holmgren is trying to trade Coburn to get a forward for Briere's replacement, he should be fired STAT.

We are just creating more holes to fill existing ones and never getting out of this cycle.

It would only be acceptable if the return is for a top 10 pick that doesn't sacrifice the #11.

- phillydentist

I think the forwards are ok...sign Gagne and look to promote some prospects...Akeson, Laughton, McGinn, Cousins...one or two of these guys can stick..

I'm pretty comfortable with this pool of forwards to choose from

G
V
Harts
Gags
Coots
Schenn
Simmer
Read

Rinaldo
McGinn
Akeson
Laughton
Cousins

that said Home said they wanted to get bigger, presumably up front, so I could maybe see a bid at Ryab Clowe...
