The same thing was done. I heard they re-signed Kwame Brown. Is that true? How old is he? I think this myth that the Flyers don't have a plan. Is just that, a myth.

What if their plan is to not have a plan??

But...why does that matter to us here as fans of the Flyers? Would should we be calling for Homer's head?

(Not saying you or anyone in particular is, but I've seen it be done)

- Giroux_Is_God

It doesn't matter to fans at all, but if you were a team owner and your GM came to you and said, "Boss, I (frank)ed up and now I need you to pay a guy $23 million over the next 14 years to just go the (frank) away" How would you react?

Sure the money's off the cap, but the owner still has to pay the player. Imagine how happy Snider'd be if Bryzgalov signed with the Devils.

ASF on 97.5:

- coby may be gone as soon as tomorrow because the team needs the cap space and it will be hard to get anyone to take on mez w/ his injury history.

- EDM interested...maybe for picks

- ritch winter tried to paint bryz as a victim. the flyers debated keeping him up until ~ a week before announcement.

- flyers may bring in 2 goalies. one who has nhl exp, but is primarily an ahl guy (sound familiar ) in case of injury. and the other a guy like halak, emory (ASF doen't think so here) or nabakov.

- maybe by mid july, the team will be mostly put together.

The cap was a big factor in the Richards and Carter trades. It's still the same basic principle. Trading established players for youth and future assets.
- MJL

Sort of. Flyers would've continued to be competitive with Richards and Carter. In the NBA with all these ridiculous exemptions and waivers the rich teams spend 40-50 million over "the cap" and stay ahead of the others except through the draft. Riskier move by Holms and one I still think was very good trades for the long term.

I see what you're saying.

Still don't think it's grounds for a firing. It's using what's allotted in the new CBA...

The flyers try and win the cup every single year

Nice plan

You need a Goalie that you can call up and backup in case of injury.

virtually no parallel. sixers have no bryz, pronger G, et al. NBA cap structure requires a total teardown, unlike NHL. flyers did a re-boot , still expected to win in plyoffs.

Should they try and lose every single year? Would that be a more suitable plan?

And I doubt they thought that trading Richards and Carter was a way to win the Cup the following Season.

I would laugh for days if we re signed Leighton and Emery.... Might as well resign Boucher as well just so we can pretend it's 2009.. lol

It has nothing to do with rules or the CBA or the fans.

Billionaires don't enjoy writing checks to people to do nothing. Ed Snider gets pissed that he has to write a revenue sharing check to help out smaller market teams. You think he's happy that he has to pay Bryz for nothing?

There is absolutely a parallel. Trading an established player for youth and future assets. Same basic principle behind it. Both GM's thought they needed to make changes for the long term future of the team.

Not really a surprise adding two goalies. Heeter is really the only goalie with professional experience below the NHL level right now in the organization.

This is why I can see him getting canned.. it's still money out the door, and if the Flyers fall flat this year.. look out.

Also, this:

If you guys think the blueline was pitiful by season's end due to injuries, imagine what a Coburnless Flyer D-corps would look like, even before the injuries!

The only reason I think Homer got a mulligan is that I believe that it was Snider that pressed to sign Bryz..

amen. i think homer's on a short leash, but ed def pushed for that signing and shares the blame.

But weren't they like 11-5 going down the stretch pretty much playing playoff teams? I'm not advocating trading Coburn, but he hasn't exactly been a pillar of consistency unless he is paired with Kimmo and Grossmann to a point.

I've laid out capgeek rosters the last 3 summers that have been better than Holmers. I deserve a shot at it, to make it right

Plenty others on here do too
