I'm not believing the Clutterbuck for Tyler Pitlick rumors, but only because I don't see why the Wild would deal him. Relatively low cap hit + lotsa hits + some offensive skill too. Pitlick is nowhere near Berlin with respect to development. If the Wild took Pitlick + a 2nd round pick, good for the Oilers. Would the Wild actually deal this guy within their own division?
Minnesota & Edmonton are no longer in the same divisions, thanks to the upcoming re-alignment. |

That and if we don't take him I won't be shocked to see him end up in CGY.
Best interest to get him. |

Minnesota isn't in our division this year.
not completely ideal as we'd rather a true anchor type. but everyone wants one of them, and they're in short supply.
but of course there's a point to acquiring a true top 4 guy. it makes our terrible defence better.

Here's my thought today. (frank) it, let's go buck wild and take every deal on the table.
Let me just daydream a little bit

Nick Schultz + 2014 Edmonton 2nd <--> Scott Hartnell
Sign Lapierre and Emery

where did the clutterbuck being available rumour start? link?
why do they do this? at least for a mediocre prospect?
even if they knew he had no intention of being there long term, this isn't a team retooling. ud think they'd be looking for immediate help. and could get it |

lapierre's perfect. he's big, still an agitator, but toned down some of the antics and is willing to answer for his transgressions these days. he also draws more penalties than he takes. the most per 60 mins on the nucks last year.
read an article on him the other days and he's one of the best defensive zone faceoff guys in the league and plays SO many tough minutes.
clutterbuck would be fantastic too. although I have zero faith in this rumour. |

It was a Russo article saying the Oilers inquired about him. I have no doubt they did. I'd ask about getting Clutterbuck too. But there's no way the Oilers could get him just for Pitlick. |

No we don't hate the word untouchables. We hate the part where you think you can improve this team without including those untouchables. This team has been sucky for a long time now, I would think you shouldn't have more than a couple of untouchables. Make the playoffs first. |

I agree. It was shocking. Maybe Russo meant Pitlick as one piece and it got away from him.
Either that or they see themselves as in a tricky cap situation if they want to re-sign Spurgeon, Faulk and Cullen. I still think they could get Pitlick + out of us. |

Lots of teams improve through a) maturing, b) improving their bottom 6 and c) changing their coaching. Look at the Leafs as an example of a teams that benefitted this year primarily from the addition of role players. Why's it so improbable that the Oilers could do that? |

forget the word untouchable. we have none. everyone's available for the right price.
but this shouldn't suggest we should move them unless get a deal that we cant refuse. we're trying to build around them. not through them.
and do I need to give evidence for the millionth time of the norm on how acquiring a star impact player works? it's not what u think. it's generally solid role players, pick and prospect going back. NOT star for star.

we certainly need some pieces, but the further maturation of these kids will be a HUGE part in any improvement |

Well, my first question, when is Eklund ever right? Seriously, I can't think of one thing he's called ahead of time that came to fruition. Anything he's been right about had already been posted on tsn.ca prior to Eklund posting it. So, I'll take Gagner's resigning (E5).

Pitlick and a 3rd next year could maybe get Clutterbuck. The wild don't have the cap to keep him. Might as well get something for him while they still can. The fact that we are no longer in the same division helps too.
Clutterbuck would be a wonderful add to the bottom six group |

Actually most those deals aren't that bad
Hartnell might be a stretch but other then that they are all pretty good
Could catch hartnell at a cheap cost after last year
