Any word on how many years he's looking for?
- BulliesPhan87

Probably four.

That's just a guess though.

In regards to Bill's blog question to us all, here are my thoughts at this point...

Buyout Bryz as soon as we can. Enough with this circus.

Re-sign Giroux for 8 years 7.5 per as soon as we are able to.

Wait and see how Couturier and BSchenn do this season, to decide on their next contracts. Unless either knocks our socks off in progression this year, they will both be in line for modest raises. Buys us time before they hit their prime and need big deals.

Re-sign Gagne for 2 years, 2 mil per.

Sign Scuderi for 4 years at slightly above market value.

KEEP the #11 pick, draft BPA, likely to be Pulock, Risto, or Zadorov. Let the kid develop.

Give Gus a full-time gig on the 3rd pairing, he needs the playing time to develop and build his confidence. No need to Sbisa him. Be patient with him.

Dump Meszaros for a draft pick next weekend.

I'm going to hear the negatives on this, but trade Read, Coburn, 2nd for Ryan and Hiller. Read and Hiller are 1 year away from UFA, so they are a wash. Ryan is a top line winger, Read is a versatile top 9 forward on the cheap for this coming season only. Scuderi replaces Coburn on the 2nd pairing with Streit. Hiller plays tandem with Mason, whichever goalie plays better gets the #1 job going forward.

That is all.

- Rocktane

i don't think that package gets you ryan and hiller and while scuderi is not an over 35 guy, he's 34 and i think we need to get younger on d, not older. if we keep read, i'd rather have ryder than gagne. i'd be ok if they went for halak for a pick (brad's idea). i also see the merit in getting a chimera type as well.

Good or Bad the Flyers are going to be stuck with him.
- stveshdy

At the very least, he brings the elements our blueline lacks. I'm leery about the term, but with the cap likely to rise after next season I'm not too worried about his hit (if he can stay healthy). Something has to give with all the salary on the blueline, though.

This best describes him.

Good insight on Zadarov, you basically believe there will be a run on forwards in the top 10 with maybe 2 d-men sprinkled in there also. Of course, this is purely speculation at this point.

Not against your ideas at all. Not sure I want Scuderi not b/c he isn't good just bc your adding another older defenseman (34 yrd old, be 35 in Dec).
- stveshdy

That is the only draw-back, but we'd get him signed prior to turning 35 so it won't be another one of "those" deals. There just isn't any 25-30 year old 2nd pairing d-men available, and my thought is that Scuderi would be free, and won't cost us Couturier or BSchenn. Picking up Streit and Scuderi basically for free, gives us a solid 2nd pairing and allows Meszaros and Coburn to be dealt for other assets.

I personally wouldn't be against moving two defenseman.

I'm scared of that pairing. Streit and Scuderi. Second pairing. I was thinking more of third pairing.

I wouldn't mind keeping Coburn (I think he might fit with Streit on a pairing), but I'm not at all opposed to trading him. I think Meszaros is caput, for sure.

I'd love to grab a younger d-man than Scuderi at 34, but I just don't see any out there that won't cost us Couturier or BSchenn. Edler is intriguing, but would still cost us a lot. Scuderi would be free, UFA.

I think your right.

Only way they move Coburn is if they get back a decent return.

I find the first round coverage extremely compelling, especially when the Flyers have a first round pick. I'm glad NBC has used the TSN feed, those guys do an incredible job at the draft.

I'm just hoping the Flyers have a pick in the first round.

Well if Streit/Scuderi is our 3rd pairing, we're spending half our cap space on our defense. You'd have Grossmann and who on the 2nd pairing?

Scuderi wont be cheap either. He is going to cost you some money.

My boy Carle!

Here's the deal. They didn't lose Carle because of the Cap. They made a choice there. Same with Jagr.

The Flyers made UFA offers of over 100M to Suter and Parise. They made a mammoth offer to Weber. The Cap wasn't a problem. It didn't stop them from trying to do what they wanted to do.

- MJL

If it wasn't for the cap, they would have definitely resigned Carle, because they would have been able to pay him market value. Jagr too, because to OS money was tied up and they basically had to tell him to wait.

another stay-at-home guy though. rather keep coby. not as sure handed, but still in his prime. had a rough 40 games, not a whole season.

Maybe give Lauridsen a shot, I don't think he's ready for full time though.

Schenn-Timonen
Coburn-Grossmann
Streit-Scuderi

Gustafsson

I would like to get younger on defense. Not a fan of addin Streit and Scuderi who are both older.

I think Coburn can really bounce back, with Streit and Gustafsson on the team. He won't be depended on as heavily for offensive input like he was this season.

I like when the Flyers play their youth. If they trade both Coburn and Mez maybe they get back another defenseman who is ready to play now.

The Islanders know he isn't worth 5.25 per year. He was playing on their third pairing. He's not that great in his own end. The Islanders could keep him if they wanted to but they made the right choice by getting anything for him.
- stveshdy

I thought they offered him 3/$15.75 and Streit turned it down?
