I doubt they deal their only young C. Nugent-Hopkins should stay there Gagner isn't signed yet. The reason I thought they would deal Yakupov before Eberle is because he's a fan favorite and is good friends with Hall, both being Team Canada material. Make no mistake about that: I'd rather take Eberle than Yakupov so if they trade him, I hope it is to us.

I think any pit fan will be thrilled for a letang for eberle and their 1st... but knowing Rs he will draft D Nurse instead of a forward

Why would they deal any of them? With those four they have their forward core. They can work around them and fill in the other positions.
- Ben37

You have to give to get something worth in return. An all-star defenseman is worth quite a bit. Nothing outrageous here. Can't wait for the draft..anyone think we'll be able to land a 1st round pick?

The thought process is this ... no good free agent in their right minds will go to Edmonton. They need help at defense and in the net. In order for this to happen, at least one of the big four will need to be dealt to fortify shortcomings. It's not like they are on the cusp here. They have lots of work.

Letang isn't worth Eberle and a first. He is worth Eberle straight up.

Asking for Eberle AND their 1st RP is calling them idiots. We can't believe this is possible, NH. Stick to Eberle and perhaps something small in return and call it a happy day

My rating on Eberle is slightly superior to the one I have about B.Ryan. If we can pull out this deal, I'll be a happy customer. You have to consider we are getting a winger for Sid for the next 5 years. Eberle/Crosby and Neal/Malkin.

Honestly? I'd be fine if we could pull something like Eberle/Smid/2nd RP for Letang/Fleury.

Just resign dupuis so your top 6 is
Bennett-Sid-dupuis
Kunitz-Malkin-Neal

Make some small offseason moves like trading nisk, glass, and TK. Don't trade letang until you know for a fact if he won't resign and then send him somewhere similar to what we got for staal.

That doesn't change anything with your philosophy because the value going out nets next to nothing. The same team DOESN'T make it to the Cup next year. There has to be a change or two and I'm not talking fourth line guys or third Dpairing talents.

Jonathan Bernier has been traded to Toronto for Matt Frattin, Ben Scrivens, and a second round pick in 2014 or 2015 (Toronto's option)

Fleury has significantly less value than Bernier

really? I would think he has more. He has a better record in regular season, was the starting goalie for a cup team, not a back up... has Bernier started any playoff games?

All he needs is his confidence back

Fleury's value has never been lower. Why would anybody target Fleury when Ryan Miller is still on the market?

Toronto overpaid by A LOT!I thought Scrivens was supposed to be a good goalie. LA got the best of the deal.

That is alot of stuff to give up for an untested backup. Is he really better than Reimer?

Well, I bet Philly keeps Bryz now. The options - Miller, Hiller or Mike Smith as a free agent. They won't take Smith. Smith probably would say no to Philly to begin with.

Bernier's value is higher than Flower's. Which would you have - a backup with no confidence issues, or a starter that is solid in the regular season and then has severe confidence issues in the play-offs? It's not a hard choice. I do have questions regarding Bernier being the man though.

maybe because frattin doesnt really impress me, but id say toronto won the deal if i had to pick. the move can make sense from an LA perspective though

So trading nisk and glass opens up salary for signing dupuis, Cooke, and a little bit of letang. IMO you don't trade letang unless you have to. His speed will sorely be missed. With the pens so close to the cap, it's really hard to make any significant changes. Pens need tweaks, not an overhaul. Keep your core but find better supporting players. I truly think Letang not having a set D partner for the entire year hurt. Martin and Orpik were able to build chemistry throughout the year and knew where to be, Niskanen and letang were lost playing together. Sure letangs a star and shouldn't make those mistakes, and that's why you don't give him 7+ per season, but you can't deny the fact he also makes good plays. If you truly think the pens need a big change, then your delusional. The playoffs came down to executing, discipline, and matchups, not skill or physicality
