It would be foolish not to pay Letang $6m per year IMO. If Pens don't, someone easily will.

Just because "someone else will", isn't a good reason to do something. See Zach Parise or Brad Richards.

Couldn't that be limited though? At least from the outside, there doesn't seem to be any accountability for those mistakes. Maybe if there were consequences, he might make less.

However, maybe that's just how he's wired, maybe his panic threshold is just too low. Look at guys like Gonchar or Brian Campbell... their leg could be on fire, and they wouldn't panic.

That just goes back to the original premise, why are you going to pay a guy 7M/year if you have to bench him to straighten his act out. For 7M/year I don't want to have to worry at all about that kind of stuff. In fact if I were a GM I would expect that kind of investment would buy piece of mind that those kind of things don't happen with that player.

I agree with their assessment, Murray did not provide much outside of PK duty. He was a pylon.

Good thing we addressed that need for size, it was need against the Bruins...

I don't agree at all. When we won everyone praised Murray's play. When we lost, it's easy to blame "our pylons". Anyway...hope Murray and Iginla are back with us.

You don't have to agree. I'll trust my eyes.

Sure. Murray wasn't good against the Bruins...so weren't Niskanen, Letang, Crosby (most of the time), and 80% of our team.

You don't think he'd be useful for a low price? He's definitely a top 6 d-man on this team and brings some good things. Nobody is perfect after all.

I disagree. The concept of "someone else will" sets the market. If 1) a player's market value is $6m and 2) that player fits in the salary cap of a team and 3) that player at that salary increases your odds on a S.C. - well, then it is worth it.

In my opinion, I think Letang could be as important as anyone on the team, ex your two top centers.

Malkin for Weber? Would you do it?

Not a chance.

We can say this 5,000 times, but Malkin won't be traded.

Also, Weber's contract is horrible. $66 million in actual money over the next 5 seasons, and unless the next CBA changes the rule, his team will get hit with recapture because there is no way he is playing until 40.
