This has got me thinking. On what teams would Kes be the #1 guy?
Edmonton
Calgary
Toronto
Montreal
Winnipeg
Florida
New York Islander
Rangers
Devils
Could a case be made for other teams? - Gullzy
all though he is probably as of right now a bit better than Nuge, Nuge will be the better player, so if he did come here and play on the first line, I don't think it would be any longer than one year before Nuge went back to the 1st |

I could see Nashville doing a deal like
Gaustad + 4th overall
For
Kesler + 1st rounder
They'll lose Gaustads Contract and gain a sure fire #1 guy |

As I said. Kesler the player has plenty of value. His cap hit has negative value. And cap space to the canucks has huge value. All together means the canucks are going to be giving up far far more player value to make a deal happen. - Iggysbff
In order to move up that far in the draft you'll have to overpay quite a bit. But it also signifies a move in a different direction if the Canucks get rid of booth Kesler and Edler to make that move. The big question to ask is what does this mean for the teams direction? If they are getting rid of a lot of bodies to get younger, where does this leave the Sedins?
Kesler's cap hit is rather good imo. I'd take him and a 500,000 a year savings over Grabovski. |

It really depends on who are the first line wingers. If Kessel was still on the first line on the Leafs, him and Kesler together would be brutal. No one would pass...ever... |

Just like Carter and Richards werent?
Gillis said publicly changes will be made... that doesnt just mean Luongo.
Im going to say Kesler, Edler will be traded while their values are still high, Lou and Ballard bought out. Maybe Raymond will be traded as well. |

Schneider w/ Col or Tamp's current D in front of him would be no better than Varlamov or Bishop. People really need to start weighing who their goalies are playing behind and what systems they play under when they make estimations about their worth. You could start calling it "Brian Elliot (or Mike Smith) Syndrome." Cases of just decent goalies being turned into hyped, star-quality tenders by the teams they play for--take away the team, and they'd likely turn back into pumpkins.
Also, VAN isn't likely going to be able to get much back for either goaltender (especially Lu) seeing as there's likely going to be a # of quality FA's available w/o the hassle of having to trade. There's also the problem of both of them playing like poop in the playoffs...so yeah... - Dissent
Yup, Schneider and Varlamov—no difference... |

Montreal, Florida and the Oilers all have future #1C's but if any of those teams had Kesler they would be playing him at the #1 spot for the next 2 - 3 years, and allow their youth to develop properly.
Very few players can play the #1 spot in there first 3 - 4 years of NHL experience. |

Oh come on, stop including garbage in your proposal - Booth - yeah like Florida wants him back.
If you think the #2 pick is going to Van for anything less than Kesler, Edler & a 1st rounder, I think you're dillusional - newmy
Is that some weird kind of pickle?
If you think the 2nd pick will bring Kesler, Edler, and a first, you're delusional! More fair would be Kesler OR Edler and the Canucks first. |

Perhaps not in Colorado, but Schneider is a potential franchise goalie (IMO). |

So 6, maybe 7 teams...and 4 of them didn't make the playoffs last year. |

Interesting thread.
Any chance Mackinnon is overvalued? He's 17, 5'10" and weighs 180. How big can he possibly get without losing speed? Sure he has great skills; there are tons of undersized players in the AHL and Europe with better skills than some NHL players. They lack size to compete every night in the NHL.
RNH has great skills but has been injured at least twice already. Why? Because he is too small. He needs to put on 30 pounds. I don't think he can do it.
Size and potential size need to be weighed when valuing players. Mackinnon needs 2-3 years in the Minors to develop properly, but I bet he's rushed to the NHL and gets injured.
To suggest a proven top 6 roster player or top 4 dman is worth LESS that any of the top five in this draft is nonsense.

For the assets they'd be giving up, NYI, Edmonton, Florida would not be prudent to acquire Kesler.
For one, I think Tavares would likely still be the #1 centre over Kesler now and for the rest of his career. Florida has Huberdeau and possibly MacKinnon coming in who sooner rather than later will drift into their natural C positions at the NHL level. Edmonton, the better sell for Kesler would be as a #2 centre as Nuge has a more #1 centre skillset. I'm not familiar with some of these other teams as much, but I feel that with Galchenyuk and Plekanec Montreal would be making more of a centre depth move than a clear move for a #1 centre there.

Reports of size fluctuate wildly, indeed some have him at over 6 feet and 185 pounds!
From seeing him in person I would say he's likely a hair under 6 feet and about 180 pounds. The guy really takes care of himself though, and is hard to knock off the puck. He wasn't running for his life out there, he was driving possession, causing turnovers and barreling through defenders on route to the net.
Room to grow? definitely. But I'd venture he ends up with a very serviceable 6 foot, 200 lbs. body type. My comparable is Taylor Hall meets Jonathan Toews. And it is my personal opinion that he's NHL ready right now. |

He looked fantastic, no doubt. If he hits 200, great, with Crosby's build, he'll do just fine. I'm just leery of all the hype. Dominating in Jr is one thing, competing with pissed off men is another. I think he'll be easily intimidated.

I think that since he plays a North-South game, there will be an adjustment period. Heck, Taylor Hall is three years in and still has flights of fancy where he thinks he can barrel through everyone. He might get banged up, but I'm not sure if his career will be ruined or anything.
And I suppose it really depends on where he goes and how they deploy him on whether he succeeds. |

What's hilarious is that you say you could care less, yet you continually respond...you sound like one of those tough kids in grade3 that acted tough because he couldn't figure out 2+2 and all the other kids made fun of him...
