Agreed.

Simmonds plays the crease on the PP and drops the gloves with anyone. Other than that he is quite replaceable in the grand scheme of things.

And besides for the fact that he was second on the team in goals this season... Goal scoring, fast, mean power forwards are rare players. Bobby Ryan is another one like him, as is Evander Kane. There aren't many of them.

I think it's a stretch to put Simmonds in the category of Kane and Ryan. He's not as good as Ryan is, or as good as Kane is likely to be in the future. Simmonds is nice player. I'd like to keep him. But if he can be traded for a quality defenseman. Off he goes. I think it's a real stretch to call Simmonds a rare player.

He scored more points then Ryan this year, and had only 1 less than Kane. I don't see why the argument can't be made that he's on their level. Obviously Kane will be better, but right now, atleast.

Ryan is a 4 time 30+ goal scorer. I don't think Simmonds is as good of a player as Ryan is. Ryan is a 1st line Winger in my opinion. Simmonds is not in my opinion.

Over the long haul he won't be putting up the same numbers as those 2 players, every now & again he'll be fortunate to post some really solid numbers to equal those players but not on an every year basis.

Bill,

What do you think of local product (Downingtown, PA) in Jimmy Lodge of Saginaw

So Simmonds is just coming into his game now, where Ryan came into his game a few years ago. That doesn't mean Simmonds is so much worse. Also note that they both play the 2nd line on their teams. I think Simmonds could play the 1st line here, and he did at a few points this season. I think what he brings is valuable enough for me to be willing to give up Hartnell and Read before him.

Ryan right now is a better player. There isn't much to debate on that. Maybe that changes in the future. But right now, Simmonds is not the player that Ryan is. Ryan is a 1st line Winger in this League. Regardless of what number you want to assign to the line he played on. I see Simmonds as a 2nd/3rd line Winger right now. And I don't know that he'll ever be a legitimate 1st line Winger. I might consider giving up Hartnell before Simmonds just for the age factor. Read is a better all around player then Simmonds is.

Simmonds isn't consistent enough to say he's a first liner. He's feast or famine.

Also Ryan played first line for the Ducks. His most common linemates were Getzlaff & Perry.

I rate Read and Simmonds as fairly even. Simmonds big plus is that he's younger than Read. But he's not a rarity.

Either way, looking beyond the point production, he brings alot to this team that Ryan and Kane bring to their teams. Meanness, strength, speed, aggressiveness, goals, energy, and constant determination. And I don't know what kind of ultra-pessimistic world you live in that Simmonds is a 3rd liner.

? Simmonds was one of our most consistent players this season. Also, last time I checked Ryan played Anaheims second line, as he has little chemistry with Getzlaf and Perry.

Your probably right. Calling Simmonds a 3rd line player is not giving him enough credit. I take that back. He's a 2nd line player. And a good one. You're right. Simmonds brings a lot of quality to the team. He's a good player who is getting better. I don't want him traded. I really don't want any of the young players traded. But you have to give to get. And if they have to trade one of the younger players to get a quality defenseman. I'd reluctantly choose Simmonds or B Schenn.

For Edler, I'd give Hartnell and pile lesser assets ontop of that. As I've said before, if the Couv are changing their philosophy to be more tough and grittier, then Hartnell can spearhead that new system, and at a slightly discounted price on Edler's cap hit. Maybe Hartnell, Cousins, and a 2nd/3rd can convince them?

simmonds to me represents everything philly should be.... 60 minute effort, sticks up for teammates, plays through pain, bangs in the corners and in front of the net, big on the PP. he's quickly become my favorite player on the team.

personally Jake is my fav, but Simmonds is closely tied for 2nd with G.
I think they should consider playing Simmer on the LW with G and Jake long term next season.

I totally agree. He would be the player to move at this point. He is going to get a significant raise after this year. The Flyers will have others to take care of such as Giroux, Schenn, and Couturier. No knock on Read but the Flyers will probably have all three rated higher on their list to get a deal done first.

I would move b schenn over read in almost any deal

schenn reminds me of a young mike richards - i'm not even close to giving up on him. Also i like his speed and physical play for Lavy's system. jmo.

I know a lot of rumors about Edler, but what about J-Bo? Pietrangelo is going to cost a fortune, Shattenkirk won't come cheaply. The Flyers had interest in J-Bo when he was a FA leaving Florida. They would have to get him signed to a contract extension, which will be salty, but the price tag probably won't be any worse then Edler's considering J-Bo will be an UFA at the end of next season.

I'd rather have Edler over Jbo, he's more two-dimensional. Don't really want Shattenkirk, as I think we need a #1 dman, which shats is not. Obviously there's 0% chance of us getting Pietrangelo.

Our depth at center and b schenn will prob bring back more in a trade. Read is Patrick sharp. Who is still playing well at 31. I have no qualms with giving read a 5 year deal. He does so much

His defensive game is nowhere in the realm of m Richards. Just think giroux, cooter, and Laughton are the centers going forward.
