Which is what getting the 1st overall pick takes unless you're drafting in the top 3-4.
- jmatchett383

Yeah... they'd have to pull a Brian Burke, trade into the top 2-3 first, then approach the Avs about #1.

If you think Brad Richards was deep in the doghouse, they'd have to invent a new term for the dark, dank hole that Hartnell would be locked in if Torts were behind the bench.

I should clarify. I dont want him as our coach. Id love him as our coach, but only for his manhandling of the media

Is Bryz open to having a former coach perform translating duties for his interviews?

If Colorado is smart they can manage to get the player they want at 1, or a player they need more then McKinnon, while addressing other needs. They could trade the first to Nashville for Ellis and the 4th overall. Nash takes McKinnon without a doubt. Florida either takes Jones or Drouin, Tampa either takes Nichushkin or Barkov, leaving 2 of the others for Colorado. Either Jones drops and they get the guy that wanted at 1 while picking up Ellis, or they get a future star winger they need without having to move a current center.

Then they can trade E.Johnson and Col 2nd for Coburn and the Flyers 11th overall. They select the opposite of what they got at 4. So if they got Jones, they pick up Shinkaruk, if they got a winger then they pick up Ristolainen.

Colorado gets:
Jones, Drouin, or Barkov
Shinkaruk or Ristolainen
Coburn
Ellis

For E.Johnson and a second

Wouldn't make those deals if I was in charge of Colorado. It would take far more then Ellis.

I read an article on SB nation today that Colorado is shopping the 1st overall pick around.

Would you trade the flyers 1st, 3rd, 5th, 6th and 7th pick for Colorado's first?

- Jack-Meoff

Yes, but only if they promise to take MacKinnon.

If Colorado were really smart, they would realize that they can't go wrong with Mackinnon OR Jones. Both deserve to be a 1st overall. That being said, they could hope that Florida would like to move to 1st, and is willing to give for it. They should try to trade the 1st to Florida for their 1st + a couple other valuable assets and take whoever is left between Mac and Jones. That'd be a move I can really respect.

You missed the point. What is Nashville giving Colorado to swap the 4th pick for the 1st overall pick? Ellis! Not enough in my opinion. It would take more then Ellis.

This coming from the guy that admittedly knows nothing about the draft prospects. The reason is, not much seperates the top pick from the 5th overall pick in terms of projections. So they get a Number 11 pick in Ellis that is just emerging in the NHL, but still get a guy that will be a superstar at a position they need more, or get the guy they were going to draft at number 1 anyway.

Colorado would laugh me off the phone, then call back several more times to continue laughing.

Maybe I should've highlighted where i wrote that they "HOPE". In all honesty Florida wouldn't be stupid to make the reach up 1 spot, or atleast for COLs promise not to draft Mac. Mackinnon and Huberdeau could be a scary duo for the next decade +.

See I dont think so, because they are in the top 5 picks. All the guys in the top 5 could be 1st overall picks in another year. See it works both ways, Nashville can say they would still be happy with anyone that would fall to them, as would anyone in the top 5, but Nashville needs a scoring Center like McKinnon more then a scoring winger or Number 1 defenseman. So getting future star in Ellis plus a player almost on equal of Mckinnon would be enough IMO.

Am I the only one who doesn't see the aura of genius that supposedly surrounds Lindy Ruff?

Aside from inexplicable longevity, and one Finals appearance, what exactly are his overwhelming credentials?

He's the first name off everybody's lips lately, and I just have no idea why.

- Tomahawk

Before a game at the Wells Fargo Center this past season, I had a discussion with an NHL pro scout about coaches in the league. It was his opinion that Ruff is the best in the business.

The reason he cited: adaptability to work with the roster he's been given. Specifically, Ruff had the highest-scoring team in the NHL the year after the 2004-05 lockout. A few years later, after his roster had lost much of its dynamic scoring pop, the Sabres had a 100-point season and were among the stingiest defensive teams in the NHL.

That has carried a lot of weight around the NHL ever since.

I have to agree with Tomahawk, sure he was able to adapt some seasons, but he has had just as many bad seasons. I guess I see him as the Andy Reid of the NHL, good enough to stick around for a long time and be seen as good coach, but not good enough to win the big games.
