Jagr looking pretty damn good as well. Still relatively effective.

Jan Levine: 20+ Offseason Questions: #2 - Should The Rangers Buy Out Brad Richards?
Many factors impact the decision..

- airjan23

To answer your question Jan, yes the Rangers should buy out his contract. I know he's a proud man and a proven performer but other than Martin St. Louis, how many players get better with age in this current form of NHL play? The Rangers cannot afford to keep him for a few reasons. First, Derek Stepan, Carl Hagelin, and Ryan Mcdonagh need to get paid. Rangers will be in a tough spot in July if Richards is on the Roster. Second, center depth. Acquiring Derrek Brassard made Richards a bottom 6 center. That was and never will be his style of play. Last but certainly not least, the Rangers cannot have an injured Richards count against their cap for 7 more years. If he were to suffer a Savard or Pronger like injury the Rangers would have to part with current members of their important core. He has to be bought out.

Nolan, yes. Clifford is eh to me. He's been injured a lot during his NHL career.

Based on their age, both of those guys have to be restricted, right?

Wish the Rangers could trade for Tom Wilson, but the Rangers and Caps would never make a trade. Wilson is an absolute bad ass and he has skill.

Two guys I think the Rangers will be on this summer -- Sergei Gonchar and the king of all douche bags.

That's why if the Rangers make a trade I hope it's with Dallas. Brett Ritchie is one mean young man. He could be a guy that would thrive especially if the Rangers resigned Clowe, Ritchie woild have a great role model.

Not saying I would like a Cooke signing. Just saying it wouldn't surprise me.

Yeah, I could see something like that. I'd have to look at Gonchar. He's getting up there but on a one-year maybe.

One year, third pair PP guy. But with Staal, G, Mac, Moore, Del Z, and Stralman, is there room without a trade?

Well, on paper no but in reality, yes. We had no Staal for a good chunk of the season and Stralman got hurt in the playoffs. It's never a bad thing to have 7 quality D on the roster.

Maybe a trade could happen involving MDZ I suppose. They'd better get food value though. Unlike many I still see MDZ having a bright future even if it isn't as a Norris Trophy guy.
