Reading through the comments and what some of the beat writers have had to say. The only two sure things are that Torts is coming back and that Richards is going to be bought out. The most important thing is that all of our young RFA's get signed, I'd like to see Step and Mac locked up for longer terms and Hags basically getting a bridge contract. I don't know if Brian Leetch's name has been mentioned as a possible coach they can add for the PP but if you watch and listen to his post game analysis it sounds like he is itching to get involved again. He is the one guy I'd apprach, he is a Ranger, he cares about the organization, its a chance for Sather to mend his relationship with him, he played for Tortorella while he was an assitant here, I just think it makes sense.

Hank, 8 years and whatever he wants...thats basically what its going ot cost b/c as Jimmy pointed out, he has the club by the short hairs, and if i were his agent I would not advise him to sign an extension bc he has all of the leverage one could want.

I don't think there's a chance in hell he gets to the start of next season without a new deal, let alone gets to free agency a yr from now. I am not worried a bit.

there is definitely an overreaction to his comments yesterday, what? overreacting in Rangerland? NO WAY

giving him away for free would be unwise

making him part of a trade that helps team in long run would be smart

John Moore and Del Zotto may be redundant and Moore is the much better skater

- jimbo83

A lot of it could depend on Staal's health and his commitmemnt long term nd can McIlrath make the roster. If MDZ can be traded for the right type off player without leaving a gaping hole on the blueline then I'd support it but you have to be careful.

and the thing is, we are actually in the position to give Henrik anything he wants.

If you assume a Richards buyout, the only players signed after next year are Nash, Dorsett and Staal for one more year, we only have three players signed. It's essentially a blank slate with about 50 million in cap space.

De Zotto and Moore redundant I like that word. That's what I was trying to say about McDonough, Staal and Girardi not to be jerky (before I was trying to be) dont you think the same argument could be made about these three?

I would love to see McIlrath make the squad next yr. I think he needs to drop SOME of the Dale Purinton maniacal style, we all know he's scary tough but veteran agitators around the NHL will draw him into a lot of roughing penalties wih his aggressiveness.

im a big fan of guy boucher, personally I think hed fit on a few teams. rangers would be one of them, could bring perhaps a bit more offence to the teams game.
- munky123

Oh my GOD don't make us watch that boring style of play every single game.

(Although he's very sexy. But I don't think you guys will get that.)

Disappointing and if Hank decides he wants to go elsewhere, that's the most disappointing thing ever. Really have to feel terrible for the guy. Give him some players that score! Oh wait, when goal scorers come to NY they forget how to (frank)ing score!

is this a troll post lol

No. I think not everyone understands the development arc of a defenseman. The ones who are amazing in all areas at 22 are few and far between.

What do you guys think about Lundqvist's comments? Do you think he made them too quickly after the season ended, or is he seriously going to consider going elsewhere?

If the Rangers think he is serious, I think they better consider bringing in a new coach. It's got to be mentally exhausting trying to win every game 1-0, he can only do it for so long. I just have no confidence in Torts to make adjustments during the season.

Plus remember, Detroit & Columbus are coming over to the east, thus making the playoffs will be even more difficult. They can't afford to get off to a slow start, because they could be in serious trouble by Christmas. If that happens it'll be another mad dash to try and make the playoffs. And then free agency is right around the corner.

Thoughts?

I think he's a smart guy who wants to stay in NY but isn't willing to set himself up for the "he's desperate to stay" discount. You know the Rangers play that game.

Might I gently caution those of you already personally sniping this morning to cut it the heck out. Sheesh. Comment on hockey and not each other if you please. If you don't please, we please, and I can take care of that for you.

God Bo make it stop

I hate to say but this summer can't move fast enough, I need some Ranger wins to shut this crowd of idiocy up, almost every article written and every post is Hank is a goner because the Rangers are done

I should hold out for a mention in a blog.

If you guys had a first round pick, at least you'd be arguing about that. Any chance of trading up to get one?

yeah, I think there is a chance, not a great chance, but a chance

we have three 3rd round picks, and no second rounders, maybe DZ gets packaged, or maybe last year's pick Brady Skjei...

John Moore, Del Zotto and Skjei are arguably REDUNDANT

Skej for a late first rounder whiel a team on the clock doesn't like what they see in terms of D on the board. Book it.

To add if I were GM. I'd do Skej for a late first if possible, 2 3rds and a low level prospect for a 2nd, thus giving us a fairly standard draft this year after it was previously sucked dry. I think we need the influx to the farm system still; and shouldn't sacrifice that. Moore makes Skej expendable and I just think doign the above makes sense. Ideally taking 2 forwards and a goalie with those 3 picks.

Bryz and Briere? Or is it Pronger? Lots of options.

I think you can take Hank's comments in two different ways.

Obviously, there is the business side, where he is basically saying he wants what he is worth, and as many here have already said, he has all of the leverage here. We have no young goalie waiting in the wings for a shot at the job.

I also feel he wants to know what the Rangers plan is moving forward. It has to be hard on the guy to have to think he has to be perfect every night. Rarely does our team give him an easy game, nor do they pick him up during a bad night when they happen.

Whether it is the system, or bringing in different players, we need to get him some breathing room, and put more pucks in the net.
