That's a strong hyperbole. Anyways, I like how we've gotten our goaltenders. We've added a starter who is, when on his game, one of the better tendies in the league, plus one of the best up-and-coming goalies in the league, at the cost of nothing but a bad backup goalie and a 3rd rounder. At least we haven't had to give up all of our depth, or one of our star players in order to fix our goaltending. Praises to Homer for that, at least.

the stalin comment refers to all of his comments to the media...not just the one specific one...

sure, you can say that he hasn't given up any assets...but man, this guy's performance on the ice is NOT worthy 5.67 mil...and if you add his 'off ice performance' on top of that...it's just mind boggling how he's employed in the NHL...

Bryzgalov had a hand in Anaheim winning their cup by coming in and playing great for them when Gigeure got hurt. As for the salary, leighton wouldn't get that because he never performed anywhere near the level through his career that bryzgalov has.

As for the politics, I don't really care but I'd rather he didn't feel as he did. However America is a free country and he's allowed to have an opinion... Kind of ironic he's so criticized for it.

how many games did Bryz play in teh playoffs to help Anaheim win the cup? one?

i dont care if he's pro abortion or not...i dont care if he's pro religion or not...hell, i dont even care if he's pro hitler or not... just dont talk about 'touchy' subjects like that to the media...

If we can't agree on simple facts, then there's no point in discussing this since you're being unreasonable.

Edit: btw I find it completely ironic I'm arguing this with a primeau fan when we traded one of the top five centers of this franchise to get one decent playoff year out of him

Unless Hartnell completely falls off the world this year nd Bryz plays Vezna hockey, I think you will get your wish next summer. Bryz is chum in the water. And I don't think it is the worst that could happen for this team to keep onto him for one more year. Make sure Mason is going to take that starting job and then praises be to sweet baby jezus that he proves he's got it and buying out Bryz is a no brainer.

I agree he hasn't come close to living up to his contract, one more year and he is gone in my mind.

my only thing is, what happens if Bryz gets hurt and you are not able to buy him out?

there will ALWAYS be a market for someone like Hartnell...but for someone like Bryz? dont think so....

True, the injury issue is scary and that is why I would heavily consider buying him out now. It is a gamble but so is going with a different backup. I'm not really strongly in one corner or the other as long as he is bought out with on one of the CBOs.

Hartnell does currently have a market and he would need to fall heavily for it to disappear. That said, look at some of the players on the chopping block this year for buyouts. It isn't unthinkable, only unlikely. I for one think he will have a great season based on his comments about coming in to camp in shape and focused. I'm just saying he is a potential target if he falls of the side of the world. His length and cap hit of contract aren't "friendly."

he wont be bought out...Luukkoo came out and said they're staying with him
- sarmen25

Makes sense.... There is no rush for them to use both compliance buyouts. Its probably more prudent to be patient.

if you think Hartnell's cap hit and term isnt friendly, just wait and see what Clarkson is gonna get this year!

I would also give a one year contract to someone like a Backstrom or Tim Thomas (well, not sure about Thomas) and see how they perform...but it wont matter, because bryz isnt being bought out...

Anybody else routing for SJS and DET?

I am assuming everyone is on the BOS train...but I also know what assuming makes.

BTW: A BOS vs SJS final would be EPIC. Thorton's legacy.

What I find mind boggling is that you think he shouldn't be in the NHL based on some irrelevant comments he made in an interview, in which he expressed his opinion. He did not commit a crime, or break any laws.

I'm rooting for Bos and LA. I think LA wins game 7.

I can't do it! I just can't route for teams that have just won. I like to see the cup passed around. Here is a really interesting podcast about the subject:

Does anyone think the flyers should be working on extensions for schenn and coots this summer? Bridge contract deals for 2 years at a low cap hit? Why give them an opportunity to rebound, flyers will only pay more down the road or possibly lose trade leverage. Just food for thought I think it would behoove them to do deals now

I think those two are gonna get paid regardless. Besides the flyers can work on deals now for the reasons you want them too but it doesn't mean the player agents aren't in their ears telling them to wait and see if they do have monster years.

Haha what if Bryz is bought out, and Mason forced into the starter position. Then he disappoints with all of the weight on his shoulders because he was rushed into a position of great responsibility. Then where are we?
- JAKEw1234

Mason is on a one year deal. All it means is that he wouldn't be the answer and they have to look yet again

I'd still try to get deals done now, rather than wait. At least now, you can negotiate off up and down years for both and possibly save a few bucks. They're not going to take a discount, but if they have breakout seasons, it will cost more to re-sign them.

The 30 career shutouts and 2.55 GAA and .913 save % are why he's still employed in the NHL.

If they can land another first, in the mid 20's, I have zero issue with taking Fucale
