Gardiner didn't even make the team this season and was only playing because of injury. Hell they had Mike Kostka in the lineup before him.

By the way Boston played down the stretch I think it took until 10mins left in game 7 to wake up and they haven't slowed down since.

Defenceman don't grow on trees I'd keep him and try to find him a legit partner there is bound to be one with the buyouts coming or teams trying to unload salary to get with in the cap next year like Ottawa the leafs were very smart cap wise last year and this year so tones of cap room to pick up some guys to help there roster now look at the Hawks and Canucks I'd be looking at the defence both have guys to sign with no cap room so there is bound to be a few guys available .

Yes, if you add an elite dman to the Leafs, it would make the Leafs D lineup a top group. What does it matter WHICH elite dman. Add Shea Weber to the Leafs, and you have a great lineup. Or any other top two way dman.

Are (frank)ing joking? $4.0mil!? No sane agent would agree to that, even for "home team discounts" particularly when said agent represents a player who has just reached the beginning of his prime years. His $6.5 is a little steep, yes. If we re-upped him at $5.0mil/per that would be robbery.

Phaneuf deserves at the very least $5.0mil/per. You could never dream of signing him to anything less than 6+ on the open market. If he went to FA he'd probably get $6.7/per. Not saying he deserves it, but he could hypothetically demand that salary for his services.

I wouldn't want to go over $5M for Phaneuf. That's the highest I'd go.
