Which is why he held up on the hit, genius.
Get over the Hossa thing, mmmkay? - Team_Teal
Hey homer.. where did he hold up? From every angle he drove right through his head and as Stoll tried to get upright he lifted the shoulder to make sure he got him in the head.
Sharks are better without that clown. They certainly look more dangerous tonight. Should be a great game. |

Raffi Torres has a long history of being ahead hunting scumbag. He has no equity or cache left to garner any kind of benefit of the doubt.
He made contact with the head. Everyone saying that if it wasnt Torres, it would not be much of issue may be right. But because of who he is and what he has done he deserves everything coming to him. |

Been watching Raffi his whole career and sadly its true. He was a bust as a 1st round pick pwr forward and has gradually stopped scoring in lieu of just cherry picking hits. |

Skating with your head up, now there's a novel idea! Can't say I've ever heard of doing that... Stoll if you had your head up it wouldn't hurt so bad from it hitting the ice after Torres hit your shoulder while you were staring at your shoelaces... - svolheim
Stoll does skate with his head up. He gloved a puck and was getting it out of the D-Zone by putting it down on the ice in front of him so he could skate off with it. Torres saw this, knew that Stoll was in a vulnerable position, and blindsided him with contact to the head. Stoll wasn't just skating around doing nothing, he was making a hockey play to get the puck out of the zone. Therefore the onus is on Torres not to hit Stoll in a vulnerable position in the head. He also doesn't just try to sake through Stoll with a hit, but he lowers himself and rises up into Stoll (which actually is why he makes contact with his head, if he had lowered his shoulder instead it probably would have been clean) and that is why the NHL took a look at it.
Torres has a very long history with the league, they're obviously sick of it. He can hit and by physical, nobody is saying not to. But blindsiding a vulnerable player with a hit to the head is dangerous and stupid. He had enough time to adjust and he chose to hit the way he did. Did he mean to hit the head? In this case, probably not.. But given his reputation, and the fact that he made the choice to make that hit the way he did, he's going to get the book thrown at him. That's the price you pay. Plenty of players live on the edge without crossing the line, Torres just isn't one of those players.
It's similar to Sean Avery. Plenty of teams have guys that are pests and used to agitate the other team... But after a while it gets to the point where the juice isn't worth the squeeze, and Avery was booted. Torres is getting close to that point now. |

Neat, but I don't give a flying eff about what Brown did, I'm talking about Torres. I would have mentioned Brown if I was talking about him.
Secondly, Brown uses his forearm to get more power behind his hits, but when he misses them it looks like he's trying to throw an elbow. Or maybe he was just trying to throw an elbow. Either way, I'm not talking about Brown here. If Brown throws an elbow, I don't like it, the same as when he embellishes. So that argument is stupid. You might as well point to OJ as a reason why it's okay to murder. |

Did you remember to turn the sound down or otherwise drown out the message while convincing yourself that Brown was just "trying" to throw an elbow?
And I know you weren't talking about Brown and all that, but is it safe to say that you don't see him as a player like Torres who doesn't know how to 'not cross the line'? Or to ask the question differently, do Brown's his flying effing elbows differ from Torres' elbows which remained welded to his torso on the Stoll hit? Just curios that's all. |

Do I see Brown like Torres? No. Because Brown isn't Torres. Brown doesn't have a bunch of fines and suspensions. Brown plays very close to the edge, and he may cross it sometimes, but very rarely. Torres crosses the line on a consistent basis, and that's why the NHL is sick of his poop. Brown has far more talent and ability than Torres could ever dream of having, that's why Brown wins and Torres is a thug bouncing around from team to team.
You're trying to compare Brown and Torres as if that makes them the same and thus it's okay that Torres does what he does, and that's where you're wrong. Torres is dirty, the entire NHL knows it. That's why he got 25 games last year, and that's why he potentially will get a large number this time.
Brown and Torres are in no way comparable of their playing style. |

Torres is bigger than Brown.. and a bigger and better hitter.
If Brown could hit as powerfully as Torres he would have more fines.. and more suspensions.

Torres is fatter than Brown, but they are the same height. Brown is a hard hitter and he hits a lot. He's consistently in the top three in hits in the NHL. That argument doesn't hold much weight. |

Hits are subjective... so.. that argument doesn't hold much weight.
Just watch some of the hits Brown has made... borderline.. but haven't led to injury.. so he gets off scot-free. |

That one was borderline. Not borderline was his knee/flying elbow on Shwartz. Just gutless and doesn't make any sense how that's not a suspension. |
