I don't think moulson is getting run out of town but I don't think his job is 100 percent safe...the kids are going to push and fight for ice time and the current roster players will have to raise their level of play as well or get pushed out....training camp is going to be a dogfight

this looks very realistic, assuming nino pans out. Nielsen isnt going anywhere. I like Nelson at center, but we are JAM PACKED at center. Lee is also gonna be floating around trying to make the cut.

First off, my apologies to the rest of the group here. I have to reiterate, I've gained a new level of respect for 99% of the Islanders fans here throughout this series, particularly those here who engaged in some good natured banter with me and other Pens fans for the past 2 weeks. You guys are dedicated fans and we had some good hockey talk.

Jim, By and large, you were the only one from this group consistently coming to the Pens board rubbing it in and trolling during the series when the Isles won, but never had the balls to show up when they lost. You are not only a troll, but a cowardly one at that, so I'm sorry, but you don't get to just crawl back under your bridge without taking a bit of your own medicine.

This will be my last post on the subject, since its not fair to the rest of your gang to clutter up the board and I've said what I have to say. Have a lovely offseason, and remember, deep breaths, and use those periods (.)!!!

Bernier, Khudobin, and Halak are all very good options.

I dont think Moulson will be off the roster either.. but his line up was very realistic, he didnt have 2 new all-stars on D an all-star goalie & 2 40 goal scorers added to the line up. Which some people just love to do.

With an upgrade in goal and an upgrade on JT's line I expect us to get the fifth seed next year.

Khudobin may not be a bonafide #1 starter yet but he's put up some nice numbers. He'd be my #3 choice out of those goalies but he's still a good young goaltender.

As for Bernier being too expensive, he's the best young goaltender in the league that should likely be moved in the near future. Without a top 5 pick this year now is the time to make that trade and cross a huge need off our to-do list. We're starting to get backed up at forward, between players and prospects. No better time to move one to add a hugely important piece to this team.

None of them will bring back anything of value or add much value to a trade. Probably smarter to hold onto them and hope they become good depth players.

Exactly, in other words, I doubt their friendship will ultimately prevent Garth from doing what's right by the organization. DP will attest that even being besties with the owner won't keep you on the roster if you aren't producing

I don't think the Islanders regard Sundstrom, Persson and Lee bottom 6 forwards...I have read they have high regard for all of them...

Moulson was worst player in hot streak and he was terrible in playoffs.

He once again missed a tap in goal in game 6. You guys ride boyes and other. They played the butts off. Moulson treated playoffs like it was just another reg season game.

Streit is not returning. And I'm ok with that. Viznosky is way better. Also we need to get another hamonic type player in lineup. Carkner didn't impress us in reg season but he brought it in playoffs. He was one of best dman

NHL live was gushing about the isles. This is only the beginning. Remember when some of u lost patience in what snow was doing. You are only starting to see it now. Lets go islanders

Most of the Pen fans don't do what you do and the ones that do we ignore. It's not our fault that you guys kept acknowledging them.

Good Series still. The Isles were tough to play against and yes I was expecting a sweep.

A couple guys on that team really opened my eyes that I didn't really think we're very good before our series. Hamonic is a beast and would love to see him him PGH. Martin too even though I still think he's a tool for the cheap shot against Talbot. However he was very good in his role. Okposo if he ever becomes the player he was at times during the series then the Isles will be in good shape not having to rely just on JT

The Islanders won't head for their offseason destinations until Tuesday. How much longer it takes to shake off Saturday night's 4-3 overtime loss to the Penguins that eliminated the Islanders in six games is as yet unknown.

"From being in the AHL playoffs [with Wilkes-Barre] to being on the other side with the Penguins last year, I know that it takes a little bit and you're always sitting around saying, 'I could have done this or that,' " Brian Strait said Saturday night. "It's just motivation to be better and we will be better for next season."

Next season has already begun for the Islanders, sooner than they thought -- even if they were the only ones who thought that way. Now that they've earned accolades for their play over the last two months, the task now is how to fill in the gaps that held the Islanders back this season.

Travis Hamonic and Josh Bailey, two members of the Isles' young core, are restricted free agents. General manager Garth Snow held brief contract extension talks with Kevin Epp, Hamonic's agent, during the brief training camp that preceded the 48-game season, but both sides agreed to put those off until the offseason.

There is little doubt that Hamonic, who turns 23 in August, will be re-signed. Bailey, who had contentious contract talks the last time he was an RFA two summers ago and agreed to a two-year, $2.1-million deal hours before the 2011-12 training camp opened, might not be in line for as secure a deal as Hamonic. But both are almost certain to return.

Less certain are the fates of unrestricted free agents Mark Streit and Evgeni Nabokov, two veterans who were central to the Isles' fortunes this season. Streit, in his second season as captain, put up 27 points in the regular season and tied for the playoff lead with five points. Snow had lengthy contract talks with Pat Brisson, Streit's agent, leading up to the trade deadline. But Streit was reportedly seeking a three-year deal for roughly $16 million total, which was too much for Snow.

With Streit's strong finish to the season and solid postseason, those numbers are not likely to come down before free agency begins July 5.

Nabokov was a workhorse during the season, starting 43 of the Isles' 48 games at age 37. He allowed 25 goals in the postseason, however, and was not sharp enough. Snow may wait to see what goaltenders are available on either the trade or free-agent market before committing again to Nabokov, who turns 38 in two months.

John Tavares, who talked often with Nabokov during the season about on- and off-ice subjects, made his feelings clear Saturday about whom the Isles star wants in goal.

"At times, we didn't make it too easy for him," Tavares said of Nabokov. "He was a leader for us all year and a guy that was huge for us. I hope he's back."

Also unrestricted is top-line wing Brad Boyes, who made good on his one-year, $1-million contract and could be back for a reasonable number.

Jack Capuano's contract situation as coach is unknown, but he is all but assured of returning next season after guiding the team to its first playoff berth since 2007.

3-4 years? I dunno. While Moulson definitely has finishing talent, that's literally all he does. He can't skate, can't hit, can't stick handle, he's a total defensive liability and puts added pressure on his linemates. I love Moulson's ability in close but lets face it, he was damn near embarrassing during this past series. Unquestionably Bailey was an upgrade on JT's wing, so if we replace Boyes with a decent player, where does Matt fit in with Strome and Nelson coming up?
