It would appear that the blood and gore on the ice following the hit has skewed the situation for the fans of both sides.

The evidence is clear. Primary point of contact was not the head, but secondary contact was made with the head thereafter. I'm sure neither Gryba or Eller are physicists but a hit at that speed is going to cause some deflection or bending of the body resulting in the head becoming vulnerable. It is also possible to be knocked out cold withoutdirectcontact to the head but I do not believe that was the case here.

My ruling as a self proclaimed not biased fan of hockey is:

A clean body check without an intention to injure.
Subsequent contact with the head resulting in injury.
Potential blindside angle although a player in the middle of the ice should be aware of his surroundings.
Diaz's pass was ridiculous and stupid but was in no way to blame for the hit. Intensity of the hit could have been dialed back considering the vulnerable position of the player.

Verdict? Shanahan (because he's a disgrace to the league and his authority much like his predecessor), and Engels (slightly bias which is to be expected from a blogger, check out Travis Yost and you’ll see a similar pattern) are both incorrect in their classification of the hit and obviously decided to only concentrate on the camera angles that best suited their mood at the time or preconcieved verdict. The suspension of 2 games is still acceptable in my books as the hit could have been delivered in a safer manner while still accomplishing the same task. Eller out for the remainder of the season most likely (one of the Habs better players I might add), so that should put the two games into perspective.

Ask yourself this question? If it were Ovechkin, Malkin, or Chara making that hit a suspension would have never been in question. If it were Gryba hitting Crosby then it would be more like 10 games. If you think I’m wrong, remind yourself of how many games

This (frank)ing "Blue and White" day is pathetic. (frank)ers downtown think they're so clever walking around like sheep wearing their personalized jerseys.

Highlight of the day (so far) was the guy I saw walking on Adelaide in a Bruins jersey, just as if to say "(frank) your blue and white day, Toronto". He just about got assaulted by a group of construction workers for being so ballsy, and when he made it safely across the street he gave them the "suck it" gesture.

If he wasn't so quick to run for cover, I would have given him a high-five.
