I'm not necessarily looking at cheap, just not wanting to over pay. Mez for a 2nd rounder, Schenn for JVR, Carle for Downie wasn't really overpaying at the time.

I think those type of deals are out there this offseason. Leddy is interesting because of his ability. I wonder about his availability because of the money tied up in Seabrook and Keith. Also, Oduya and Hjalmarrsen are making over $3 million each. Leddy will be a RFA.

That's kind of what I'm hoping for also. For whatever reason, a team just decides to trade a Meszaros or Carle. And for a decent price, they can be obtained. I really feel like the trade the Flyers make, if they make one. Is going to come out of left field. For a player that no one is talking about.

Good point, its just that I feel that Mackinnon, Drouin and Barkov are the type of impact players they won't get at 11.

The Flyers history over the last 15 years has been able to identify a pretty good player no matter where they pick in the first round. The problem has been them not keeping their first rounder for acquiring middling talent (ie Eminger and Versteeg). I'm pretty confident they'll get a player who will be effective in the NHL,

The subplot of Valeri Nichushkin possibly dropping is interesting to me. He's got top 4 skills, but teams might get leery with the KHL deal. If he's there at 11, I'm breaking my leg to draft him.

He's not the "protypical" Russian player. He's big, skilled and doesn't shy away from the rough areas.

I'm aware but even if they made the move for him you still have the same areas of need to fill now with less potential picks to draft and develop for the long term benefits of the team.

The thought of him dropping has been creeping in my head for a bit too. I'd be ecstatic if it happened.

I'd love for him to drop and for Homer to feel confident that he will make the jump sooner than later. I originally heard that he recently signed a KHL contract for 2 years with an opt out after one, but then I read today that there is no KHL contract. And also the interview that said he would most prefer to play for the Flyers or the Rangers.

Yeah. I'm trying not to lock into one guy, but I'm starting to with Pulock and Nichushkin...that said, there's not really a guy out there that I'd be upset at getting

Absolutely agree, and I think a trade will be made this offseason. For whom? Anybody's guess. There really is no one Homer can swing for the fences in free agency (restricted or unrestricted). I believe he is willing to deal a forward off the roster to upgrade the blueline. It is just imperative to be able to spot Kimmo throughout the season next year so he isn't run into the ground by playoff time. I like the potential of Gus, but another d-man who is more of a puck handler is needed because of the uncertainity of Mez's health.

The biggest problem with Russian prospects is, the news reports usually serve somebody's agenda, so you have to take it with a grain of salt

Smart not locking in on one guy, I have a few but some would be considered a reach at 11 but I like them more than some that have a better shot to go 11 or just after that point I'd add Zadorov to the 2 you mentioned.

Like Kerby Rychel, Bo Horvat, Curtis Lazar, Jason D-ickinson & Robert Hagg

I don't see it happening either. But remember when the Flyers traded Fedetenko to TB for the 4th overall pick? I'm still trying to figure that one out.
- MJL

that was before the rookie cap and there were some money issues with TB picking in the top four so they traded out
that's the way I remember hearing it anyway.

I'd still swing for the fences and take Nurse if he's there. From what I heard he's a sure fire NHL talent and if his current upward swing in development continues he could be a monster of a defenseman.

This is all from what I've heard around Canadian radio interviews because of course I have no sources and haven't seen him play once so take that for what it's worth.

- mayorofangrytown

The thing I like about Nurse is his compete level. Everything thing I see or read on him seems to portray him as a very driven player. I heard him use the old Philly Phrase, hates to lose. How can the Flyers organization not love that? Were he to fall to the 11th position I'd take him. But I would not move up for him, I'd be content with Pulock or Ristolian at 11th.

Here's an question in need of opinions: There is a tier above elite. It is the kind of player that you only see drafted once a decade at most. They are players like Wayne Gretzky, Lemieux, Orr, Roy, the major legends essentially. Last decades forward was, as much as I dislike it, Sidney Crosby. Dude is just on another level. Does anyone here think that Karlsson, especially since he's only 22, is showing that he is that once a decade defenseman? That next tier over elite player like Crosby? Dude is unreal out there.

Lidstrom was the last defenseman to play that was on that next tier.

I would say he is more Paul Coffey. His own zone play needs to improve for him to be considered that next tier over elite player.
