It means that after 6 teams pick a new prospect, the Oilers get to pick one too |

Why would the flames or the hurricanes pass up on valeri nichushkin? And in my opinion lindholms a better choice then monahan. - DJD209
Nichushkin is signed for 2 more years in the KHL. He will slide because of it. |

I imagine the 6th pick being something like this:
Feaster: “Monahan's the kid we’re gonna take. Is that who you want?”
MacTavish: “Yeah.”
Feaster: “Well that’s who we’re gonna take.” |

He without question is. Cloutier has most likely never seen any of these kids play outside of the big 3, and if he is it's a small sample.
Can't fault the guy though. Writes a cool blog with a great following and has a life outside of the internet. |

I honestly don't think he goes in the 1st round. If he's signing multi-year deals before he's even drafted no team is going to waste a top-15 pick on him when he's clearly comfortable staying in his native country and making un-taxed money. |
|
|
|
Cloutier, the reason your mock drafts are pretty wrong every year is because team's don't draft 18-year olds based on current team needs. You just analyze each team's need. Florida is not going to choose between MacKinnon and Drouin based on what they need right now. They will pick the best player. |

For those that disagree on Nichuskin, ask the Capitals if they would do the Kuznetsov pick over... |

Then again i wouldnt be too surprised if the flames drafted nichuskin, I mean we are dealing with feaster who took a risk on jankowski last draft |

i think oilers best move is to trade down a couple spots for a defensemen like nurse or zadorov - DJD209
Nurse won't get out of the Top 10 IMO. And if he does, I'd say the Flyers would take him at 11. You might as well take him while he's there at 7. |

Tampa Bay....the worst goals against in the league...is going to take another forward?
I don't see it.
And Yes. I bet Oilers take a Dman or trade the pick. - Iggysbff
What would them taking a D affect? It's not like he'll be in the NHL anytime soon and it's the same situation as we have. They've got a good number of D prospects that'll be coming through the ranks soon. Besides, you don't pass up talent like Mackinnon or Drouin for positional need. You know? Everything WE'VE been saying to others to defend our picks for the past few years? |

I'm thinking more.
Feaster "hey Regier, wanna trade picks again? I heard of this #50 ranked guy out of some quebec high school. Tall and skinny and has some long janitor-like name."
Regier "Well, we're gonna need a guy like Nichushkin to compliment our extremely skilled player(s), Mikhail-The Generational talent-Grigorenko" |

Huge drop off in talent on D after Seth Jones. You take the best player avail. at #3.
I would be shocked if Tampa Bay took a D-man instead of Drouin or MacKinnon and didnt trade a few spots down.

Kuznetsov has guaranteed that he's coming over after the 2014 Olympics and the Caps used the 26th pick on him. They didn't miss much. |

Who the (frank) knows. Bob Mackenzie said that of the 10 teams he talked to, all of them had Nichushkin rated top 3-4 but none would take a chance on him top 10 due to the KHL contract.
And Clouts saying he's going by Bob Mac's opinion....Mac made it clear...The list he gave is not "his" list, but a consensus of 10 teams he talked to. No mention of who those ten teams are. |

Kuznetsov is the best drafted prospect in hockey right now. And they got him at 26. That's incredible. Redraft he'd be top 10 |

If that's how it rolls I would be okay with taking Valeri. But even if he is picked don't pencil him in immediately as a top 6. Which is why I'm still thinking we will trade the pick |

He's staying the KHL for at least another year and possibly even two. Forced development time is OK by me! He's an elite winger that Yakupov seemed to get along with when they were WJC teammates. I'm all for picking him at 7th! |

If your take on MacT's commentary is correct, then I'm a little confused. Bringing back guys like Jones and Smyth (even Gagner, although he's alright) conflicts with the idea of "at least 6-8 new players", doesn't it?
I'd certainly favor the new players over the Smyths, etc. |
