i don't get to watch much college football would he be a player for kelley's system? does that mean one of vick or fowels isn't in the long run plans?>
- 2Real

i think it's just a taking a chance on him at this spot is worth the risk type of thing. at one point he looked like he could be a top ten pick

and it would look like the eagles should try to move a qb at some point. as far as long term plans go, i doubt vick was a part of that to begin with. just my opinion though, of course

Why Columbus?
- JAKEw1234

I'll be rooting for Columbus. I adore Bob. The above came out wrong!

Pronger will probably live out on LTIR or the whole "trying to get better" is Homer justifying his LTIR until he can take him off and buy him out over the summer. Lauridson will go back to AHL and remain first call up. Huskins won't be resigned (I like him but we are full on D (when healthy) and he'll also cost us a 7th pick so... probably not)

- flyler

A GM doesn't have to justify a player on LTIR other then the process of submitting the medical documentation at the start of the Season. And when the buyout period begins, there is no LTIR. Pronger is not going to be declared healthy anytime soon. I think Lauridsen has at least earned a long look at next year's Camp.

Buying out Pronger is a waste of a buyout. He understands his situation, he understands is low likelihood of coming back better than anyone. He understands his age, and he understands the burden his contract is to the team. He's a class guy, and I think if Homer nudged him towards retirement, he would probably do it. I think bringing back a nearly identical defense doesn't solve anything for us, either. Thats almost the exact defense that took us out of competition early on. Mez and Coburn both need to go, I think. If we could get Carlson, or Goligoski, or Shattenkirk, or heck even Pietrangelo (As much as that isn't going to happen), then our defense will be better off, even with Lauri and Gus holding down the 3rd pair.

Why would Holmgren nudge Pronger toward retirement? Pronger has a 35+ contract. Flyers would be stuck with the full Cap hit.

It could me a lot of things for them but to guess I'm sure I'd be wrong.

By the way it's Foles not Fowels.

His contract ran out, and since he signed a series of one year deals. He was not signed to a 35+ contract.

Ooh
That shows my understanding of retirement. So if he retires we still pay his full salary amount until the end of his contract?

yea it's a goofy rule, but if you sign a guy to a multi-year deal that kicks in after he's 35 years old and he retires before the end of that deal you're stuck with the entire cap hit for each remaining season (even though you don't pay him actual dollars, i believe)

on ltir, they pay him but you get an exemption to exceed the cap or something like that

No, if he was healthy and retired before his contract ran out, Pronger would not be paid for the remaining years. However, because he was signed to a 35+ contract, the Flyers would have to carry Pronger's full Cap hit each year, for the remaining years left on his contract.

So in essence, it does not do either Pronger, or the Flyers any good for Pronger to retire.

Lauridsen should get a look next year. He's played well along with Gustafsson.

Im thinking they let the two battle it out next pre-season for who makes the opening night roster.

I'd lean toward Oliver because of the size, but Guss has at times shown a very nice ability to be creative offensively. Tough call especially if MAB is able to come back in the mix.

I would be ok with Gus on the 3rd pair. Ollie as the 7th. I would be ok with Huskins back on the 3rd pair as well. Obviously I'd like to have a top kid in the draft back there but we'll see what happens at the draft.

One thing is for sure, heading into the season I cant count on Mesz to be anything more than an 8th D men at this point.

He will certainly get a look. My concern is neither Gus or Lauridsen is ready to be a top 4 guy, and I would rather not pair 2 kids together even on the 3rd pair. Both have played pretty well but being paired with vets like Timonen and Schenn and even Lilja can really help a young player.

Unless Lauridsen resally stands out in camp and preseason, my guess is he starts the season in the AHL. It certainly wouldnt surprise me if he was called up and in the top 6 by the end of the season though.

We have found our younger less expensive version of danny briere,

But seriously, he reminds me a lot of Danny.
