Crosby and Malkin are 2 of the top 5 players in the world. Vanek is not even in their class. Vanek goes on 15-20 game stretches without getting a point.

He has never done that in his career. I think 7 or so is his worst, 15 is insane...that's literally going over a month without a point he might be inconsistent and often injured but that's closing in on stafford territory.

I'm basing that on the possibility of one or both Miller/Vanek being gone and the fact that it is an 82 game season next year.

I'm personally past losing at this point. I think Regier move up a few spots as is with his stockpiled picks and tradeable assets.

Even if he isn't in their class hes damn close. Vanek would be on any team's top line. The point I was making is that he is OUR best player, and trading him, based on what we have left would bury us for about 3 years. We don't have to do that, and I think the Sabres are leaning toward resigning him and going for a quick re-tool rather than a long-term rebuild.

Also there is no reason to not start Miller on Friday, he is the better goaltender. People are looking into the Rangers game too much, it was a clunker, but Enroth let in 4 goals too, and they weren't off skates or caused by a fluke mistake.

We also have to ice an NHL-level team, we might be the worst team in the history of the NHL without them.


I'm fine with trading Miller in the offseason if we can find a goalie who can start 50-60 games next year. Enroth is really only good for 30 max in my opinion, probably more like 25. Hackett isn't ready to be a starter. Leggio isn't an NHL goalie. Knapp, Lieuwen and Makarov all need time as well.

Correct, 7 games is his longest drought, happened twice in 2 different seasons.


He has 10 points in 2 games, 30 points in 19 games. 40 points in 21 games this year. Hes been scoreless in 16 games, thats 43% of the schedule. Thats about 32 games over a full season that he goes scoreless (33 in each of the previous 2 seasons, for 42% and 41% respectively).

Your best player should be close to getting points in about 70% of their games played each year.

Who knows if we can resign him, and for how much. If you can get a good return for a guy who is about to be on the back end of his career while your rebuilding I would test the market for him.

Shouldn't be an excuse. He was our worst player every night. I said this earlier, I could care less how much of a leader a guy is when the pressure is off and the season is over with. He got hurt and disappeared during the meat of the season. It happens too much

PPG in a season were he plays less than 40 games. I know I hate on Vanek a lot, but he's frustrating to watch when he goes from all world player to Houdini every year. The guy has top 10 NHL talent but leaves a lot on the table
