I used to be in the 280-320 range but have started to slice the ball as I try to gain more power over my last two years....been bringing the ball closer to the center of my stance and going for accuracy over distance....250-280 is what I shootin' for, but on the F'n fairway this year!! - Colin Dambrauskas
I did the same thing. Lost out on distance, but now I can get it on the fairway 75% of the time. 250 yds, on the fairway I'm happy. |

yeah I firmly believe that you honestly wanted to discuss the whole Leafs/Playoffs/Hi-Def issue. - Aetherial
Just pointing it out, especially since it is more widely available. If I was trying to troll, which in a sense is just desperation, wouldn't I have said something about Maple "Laffs", Cups, and color tv in which you would come back with yeah cause 1974-75 was almost yesterday and then the trolling would become a vicious circle jerk of internet bravado.
All I was trying to say was congrats on the playoff birth and enjoy the HD |

I would quite honestly be happy with a 200 yard drive if it was in the fairway. I have only ever golfed with ONE person who actually did hit over 300 yards off the Tee... despite the claims of about 80% of golfers that they can do so.
In fact, I have only see about 2 people ever hit that far at the driving range. - Aetherial
Average golfer hits about 220-250. I just happen to play off my front foot enough that I gain extra power and typically land in the 280 range...end up over 300 with a good bounce. Thats when I hit the ball straight though....now Im 250 down the middle, and then 30 to the left into the trees |

easiest things for beginners is to slow your swing down and play a 75% swing in relation to your body....most people have troubles connecting properly on their follow through because they get their hands too far up and away from their body and then dont follow through afterwards. Need to keep your swing simple....swing back 75% hands up, follow through 100% hands up. - Colin Dambrauskas
It's funny you say that... I was actually going to do that next, cut down my swing.
Even though my slice is not there, or is very minor, I still have problems aiming the ball. So I am looking for a little more control.
Don't you find though that when you try to take something off your swing, it gets worse? I know with my irons I get really erratic when I am playing fractional swings.

Best case for the Leafs I think. Especially if the Habs continue to struggle...though I dont see it going on much longer as the playoffs approach. - Colin Dambrauskas
Yeah, as amazing as the Habs have been they still sure aren't recent Cup champs like the Bruins. Both would be really fun matchups.
One thing I do wonder about is how Boston will be feeling coming into the playoffs, because they play a lot of hockey in a short time just before the playoffs start.
But hell, it's been too long, I'd play the Gretzky Oilers right now and be happy about it |

I spent all summer trying to correct my slice. I managed to almost eliminate it completely. Unfortunately, the total overhaul of my swing ruined every other club.
Anyway... what finally worked to correct the slice was bring my hands in closer to my body. This caused the arc of my swing to be more up/down and less of a horizontal circular motion.
(obviously there were other adjustments also, like bring my top hand more over the top and concentrating more on locking my front arm, but the hands in closer to the body was the biggest improvement)
You are probably a better golfer than I am, but it was worth a mention since that one thing made a HUGE, all-of-a-sudden, difference in fixing my slice. - Aetherial
It was for this same reason I almost ditched my driver all together. Was considering getting a tour spoon for using off the tee...but, I've decided to try all other options first before going that route. |

Yeah, I hear ya. I have little problem getting the ball out to 275-280, but was consistently hitting the Mike Weir Special 40 yards into the trees. I have more confidence in my fairway woods and hybrids, so I figure chopping off almost 2" of my driver a-la-Tiger should help with the consistency. My driver has gotten into my (frank)ing head over the past season - p_zub
The driver is hardest club to hit.
I totally re-invented my swing for the driver last year. Took me about 3 months to master it, but i'm very happy with it now. I used to have a banana slice on my driver 80% of the time. |

If you could hit 250, straight, consistently... would you take that.
I would be passing out freaking cigars.
I think, only once, have I ever hit a drive I would say was 300 yards. NOw I am about 230-250, straight left, or straight right

Its all in your head my friend...you may think youre taking away from your swing, but really your correcting it. *Most* golfers extend their backswing too far, pulling themselves off center and not being able to commit to the ball as they should. I was the same with my irons until I slow it down, went about 75-80% of my regular swing through my backswing, then followed through at 100% with my hands pulling up rather than out. |

So I can imagine the hike ticket prices will take for the playoffs. I'm hearing $200 is the start.
Playoffs is so good for the city. Pretty much every sports bar will be packed and making a killing. I'm already seeing the promos... 1/2 price wings and beer... jersey giveaways.... awesome time right now!! I would imagine Maple Leaf Square is going to be insane!!
Are there any bars anyone would recommend? My buddies and I are trying to make a game plan for Game 1. |

Im working on 250-280 down the middle. Hoping my power comes back as I gain confidence again...right now I have little confidence in my abilty to hit one down the middle. Its all in my head at this point. Give me anything else in my bag, no problem. |

It's because it's the longest club, and requires almost a completely different swing than the other 12. Consider that the average driver length on tour is around 44", and the average driver sold in stores now is 45.75"+...tour players aren't taller than the average amatuer, so it says something I think. |

My wife and I are going to do all we can to buy some tickets and resell them. Make some money off these poop. |

I played a lot in my teens and early 20's. I finally got to the point where I never hit a wood. I became a real good 3-iron hitter.
The point is, I did exactly what you said. I ditched my woods altogether.
Last summer, after 25 years or so, I picked up golf again. I decided that once and for all, I would learn to hit a driver. I played at least one round a week and at least 1 session at the drivig range every week. I tried every change and tweak I could find.
Honestly, I can hit straight now. Once you get rid of the slice it is not a big deal to keep it off. The problem I am having is that I literally lost the ability to hit any other club and my scoring actually got worse even though my driving was much better.
This summer, it will be all about hybrids, and chipping. |

You can play 18 holes in 2 and half hours?
Or do you only start drinking after the first 90 minutes? |

That's funny... was about 3 months of pretty consistent work for me also.
I did NOT want to be one of those guys who aims 45 degress away from the fairway and hopes bend the ball back onto the fairway.

I always say, its great to drive a ball 300 yards and get to the green in or under regulation...but if you 2-3 putt each hole....whats the point. No one really practices putting, though its mostly due to inconsistencies between courses, I guess. |
