Yeah man, I don't see muslim culture trying to 'impose its will' on Canada whatsoever. The actions of a few radicals are not muslim culture. |

Seriously?? You don't see it??? What radicals are you talking about??? he was, as am I talking about the masses. Not the bombers.
You don't think them challenging the courts to be able to not wear a helmet of hardhat because it interferes with their turban?? Or them challenging a school board about their kids being able to bring their 3foot saber to school??? Changing the uniform of the RCMP?? None of this?? Plenty of other examples I'm sure. |

Dude, the things you're referencing there were cases involving Sikhs, not muslims. And if one individual dude brings a case to a human rights tribunal, that's not an entire culture trying to impose its will. That's one guy being a goof. And did you notice how the kirpan issue you referring to was a blip, didn't go anywhere, and is not an issue anymore? That's because the majority of Sikhs don't wear the kirpan, or else they realize its only a symbol and those that do wear it often wear a simple necklace kirpan, no different than a cross or a buddha. |

That's the point though...... and yeah it did go somewhere because it was even allowed to go to court. It should never get that far. They did change the uniforms of RCMP...... so yeah. Canada shouldn't be changing it's laws (or even contemplating it) or conform to a group.
And yeah it's wasn't just "one goof". |

Yeah the cap is not a problem... as long as you want to ice the same crappy team next year.
Yeah, you were trolling, and someone made you look stupid so you backed off. Best you take take your gutless, ignorant ass out of here and go discuss the virtues of being 200 lbs overweight with the rest of your Flyer buddies.

I don't man, personally my Sikh buddies are cool Sikhism itself is a non-proselytizing relgion, in that it's actually against the teachings to try to convert people. The Jehovah's Witnesses get more up in my poop than Sikhs ever have. Personally, if a Mountie has a turban on, that's okay with me. I mean, he's a Mountie, he's probably a pretty solid citizen who happens to want to wear a turban at work. Not exactly barberians at the gate.
And the court process is there for everyone, it's not very just to not even hear cases. And look at the results - things that are unreasonable, like women in burkka not showing their faces in banks or in court, get rejected, things like wearing a turban are not rejected because it's not a big deal, and it isn't. |

I'm not saying they are bad people.... I have no problem with them. I never said anything about converting or anything. All I'm saying is that Canada shouldn't be conforming to others. Here are the rules, follow them. We shouldn't be have court proceeding to see if it's OK for some (not all based on religion) to do some things that we have deemed against our laws/regulations. |

Well said on that issue.
However there are other issues that are a little more forceful, like some people (and I know it wasn't ALL of a particular group) trying to make it so cases could be tried according to Sharia law instead of Canadian law. I'm glad that shot that down (maybe one thing McGuinty did right) but it might pop up again. I'm 100% against that, if you come to Canada you don't get to keep your legal system, I don't go to another country and demand they try my case according to Canada's justice system. It doesn't work that way. You follow the law of the land, if you don't like the law of that land then don't go there.
Not to mention Sharia law is pretty brutal and sexist to it's very core, but that's another debate entirely. |

Thats why we have the court system, to see if it legal to imply these changes.
Nothing wrong with that.

I got no problem with these Sikhs, Muslims, Indians etc.
My only issue is how they tend to take entire communities over. That and the way they make Fabricland look like some form designer clothing store. |

Sure, but I want recourse to challenge rules too, what if I have an issue I want to challenge in court someday? I agree there are some frivolous challenges to rules whether it's religious issues or not, but testing things via court cases so that the judiciary has some power and it's not all in the hands of the government is a cornerstone of our society.
And we stand as an example to authoritarian countries, because we can say look, we let people practice their traditions so long as it's reasonable. We have court cases, we don't stone a guy for what he believes. We let a guy wear a funny hat at work, so long as it's not a safety issue like in the case of hardhat.
Stuff like the burkka, because it covers the face, absolutely that's an issue. Or, say, those religions where they don't believe in modern medicine and have a sick child, that would be an issue for sure. |

You know how Canada could build a stronger economy? By adapting to certain cultures who have a strong voice in the country. Its not to say that they need to be in flux as new citizens continue to join our country, but when it gets to a point where a large number of people who are a part of what builds your economy request that their religious rights are to be respected....I think this is something the country entertains.
We're not talking about having to walk backwards on sundays and only serving Tim Hortons between 2pm-630pm or anything, they are (for the most part) minor things that they feel are important to them as members of our communities. |

Yeah, absolutely, Sharia law is the extreme case, that won't ever fly, and in my experience at least with the muslims I know in Canada, they don't want that either. They came here to get away from that poop a lot of them. |
