For (frank)s sake if they take a d-man please dont let him even sniff NHL ice for a year.

I'd prefer two.

- flyer_nutter

I'd go further and don't let him sniff the NHL for 3 years maybe even 4 unless he lights the AHL on fire with all around play.

I've for a while now questioned the Flyers scouting department. They are good when it comes to forwards, and may have found a gem in Stolarz but it cant be so one dimensional.
- flyer_nutter

I think we're a bit spoiled, to be honest.

There are quite a few teams that perpetually draft poorly all over the board. Calgary is a good example... their 1st-round draft history is like a whos-who of busts. NJ does surprisingly poorly at the top of the draft, too.

Same here, I'm in fact hopeful they let whomever they pick continue their development even should it be Monahan. And I've been high on him for over a year.

I'll for sure have a group in mind that I'd like to see them pick but knowing enough about the players I doubt I'd be unhappy with their selection.

- ob18

We've discussed our draft orders a few times, and it's more or less the same. I'm not locked into any one kid, and honestly would be happy with any of the prospective top 15.

Obviously there's tiers, but depending upon where they pick, I'll likely be content with the player they get.

I've changed my mindset for D after Jones

Ristolainen, Pulock, & Nurse and you can really put them in any order.

- ob18

Right on. I think I saw somewhere that Pulock isnt great at handling the physical game. Could be wrong though.

Personally I hate soft D.

Really would stay away from the Russian kid. Its a personal thing but to me its too risky, and I always question dedication, effort and defensive awareness.

Most important decision of the summer. Unless they look at firing the coach.

it will be interesting to see what homer does around the coach

What I hope most understand is whatever spot they end up picking most will require going back to whatever league the are currently in and will need more seasoning even into the AHL.

Maybe if they landed Monahan would he be one of the few who would get the 9 game look or even the season in the NHL.

I'm still one that I know Jones will be in the NHL but I feel he would greatly benefit from another year in juniors to work on his game and add muscle.

- ob18

I think most in here are ok with this. It's the 97.5% of flyer fans with no patience and Who think we would be playing for the cup every year if we only had a goalie.

Overall, in terms of simply getting guys to the NHL, the Flyers do a solid job drafting.

I'd rather have the Flyers' positional issues rather than the Flames history, for sure. Even a team like the Rangers, who get value, have several 1st rounders that really flopped.

The Flyers biggest 1st round flop in the past decade or so is probably Woywitka.

The Flyers draft forwards really well.

Outside of that to me, its very meh. Not going to go and say they are the worst thing since teen pregnancies but they have to better evaluate d-men, and actually be willing to draft these guys. Instead of going with the safer choice, and continously having a weak mediocre d-core.

What the hell do I know though. I thought Parent would develop into a strong d-man.

Haha true, true.

I see drafting Russian players early in drafts as too risky.

Protypical.

ISS - Poised well rounded D-man. Good offensive upside w/ big shot. Effective on PP. Good open ice hitter.

Couldn't imagine the Flyers drafting a Russian player at the top end of the 1st round.....that's not their M.O.

Wouldn't be anywhere near as big a bust as Ryan Sittler or Jason Bowen.

Nichuskin.

Zadorov is a good case to me. Finland aside, he has already come over to North America and started to get used to the game/culture.

Coaches rave about his attitude, and even leadership with having limited english.

i see this phrase all the time, and i have to say i don't understand what it REALLY means, especially when it's referring to a player who's expected to be drafted in the first round.

He flashes glimpses of what scouts feel he can be as a player but at times shows how far he still has to come even as a player within the OHL & junior ranks.
