Just got finshed watching the game on DVR. I have to say, the biggest vagina in the whole league is Joel Quenneville. His consistent preaching of the "Active Stick" instead of taking the body is going to cause another early exit for this team.

Haha I appreciate your honesty... I don't like every Canucks player as well. I don't think the comment was terribly offensive.. it was just needless. Girl or not.. he just doesn't need to be a jerk about it. It was a legitimate question that a lot of people were thinking.

It also came out, I didn't realize, but she said I can't skate. I think hearing that also lead to Keith saying you can't play, because she said to his face that she can't

It's frustrating watching the Wings embarrass Smith and Co. 2 days after the Hawks failed to score 5-5 against them...

...at the UC

F@ck'n hell...

'Wings desparate, 'Hawks not... big, big, big difference.

Stanbo said after the '11 playoff loss he would build a team that was 'tougher to play against'. The 'streak' and the record are great...but two years later...we're easier to play against (physically) than any Hawks team in my memory.

When you hit the opponent less than 20 times in 60 minutes and many of the hits were half-hearted...you deserve to be embarrassed and we were.

- philco28

Spot on Phil...again guys like Carcillo and Bollig are fringe players that aren't going to get a lot of minutes. We're still missing the Ladd/ Buff/ Brouwer/ Versteeg types...guys that can actually play with the puck and score as well as take the body and check someone. Guys that will take a regular shift in the top six/nine.

Defensively this team is still too soft as well. Brookbank was supposed to be a physical guy...? Oduya was getting hit and turning it over as well.

Now did the game matter that much to the Hawks last night no. But Van is our most hated rival presently and the Hawks looked like they'd rather be anywhere else last night...and you have to hand it to Van they came out and pounded us every chance they got...and you can be sure this is the blueprint that every other team is looking at to beat us in the postseason.

You are correct, Vancouver initiated and finished their checks which is their game plan against the Hawks. Hit them early and often and take away as much of the speed game as possible and make them cough up the puck. (See Sheldon Brookbank and Johnny Oduya) It's an effective plan and the Canucks played a very sound defensive game as well, without Bieksa in the lineup. And they can do it because there is no Byfuglien or Ladd or Brouwer in the lineup to hit back. That's part of the reason Q and his coaches were trying to fit Jimmy Hayes in somehere.

Now if VAncouver takes tonight's game plan in against the LA Kings, they get phyically abused themselves because the Kings have so many big forwards who love to initiate contact and roll around in the mud. They start pounding on guys like Burrows, the Sedins and Kesler and the Canucks don't handle that any better than the Hawks did tonight.

Moral of my story - better have some players who are willing to initiate and engage physically and who can play the game at high level. Tonight there weren't many that were interested (and they still only lost 3-1).

Good post. I felt last night like I was watching the playoff series two years ago.

That series laid the ground work on how to beat the hawks.

The skill that was lost in '10 was great ....some of that has been replaced with Frolik Kruger Saad Stalberg Shaw.......but what wasn't replaced was the TONS of grit and push back that Ladd Versteg Buff Frasier Eager Burish Brower ....lots of grit.

The game we saw last night is how Vancouver will play us in the playoffs ....the first period of the st.Louis game is how they will play us to....but it will be foe an entire series..

Again.....I go back to the point of trying to play physical. Bolig, Carcillo, and Brookbank????? You gonna put those three out there against the Kings, Ducks, Nucks, or Blues???? The way they played tonight...aside from Carcillo's goal none of them had any sort of presence on the ice nor did they make the Nucks hesitate with physical play. If I'm Q I'm asking them why the heck did they think they were out there for???

When the Hawks play physical teams it is imperative they score first....puts the other team on their backs and forces them to play the Hawks game.

- UnnamedSource

Oops. I missed the game. Heard it sucked. They could always have a 4th line of Smith, Pirri and Morin.

Don't think I would be opposed to that. Especially for tomorrows game if guys are dinged up.

Same song new year... Could be a great regular season team still not built for the style that playoffs brings. That's once again.... On Bowman. We are better equipped than the last 2 years. But the holes remain. Not too hard to see. Glad we don't see Kings or Canucks first round.

He's been working with Huet, Theodore and some other crud tenders. Ducks should win a round or two this year.
- philco28

Theodore won a Veznia and Hart.

Huet for getting dumped on like he did here is top 20 all time save % top 30 all time GAA. Never really carried a team before so probably a mistake signing and grossly overpaid but I disagree with the statement that he was terrible. Crawford kind of reminds me of him... Only taller.

That's not going to help either ..... the team as a hole has to have some willingness to engage at some point, to finish checks ...Vancouver didn't play cheap or dirty.....they jumped passes and knew if they hit us early and often the turnovers would come and we would get skidish.....

If true, it's also on Q - it's his system.

Hawks have several skaters who could be hitters - would Bickell, Stalberg, Brookbank, Seabrook, Hjalmarsson have developed a more physical game under a different coach? Someone needs to teach Bollig how to finish checks instead of looking for fights, someone needs to let Carcillo finish checks.

But that's not the system, and the system won't change now.

If the highlighted is the cause for a first round exit by the Hawks, I'll be right back on the "Can Coach Q" bandwagon.

What a phucking embarrassment this team was last night.

Well let's just see how they come out of the gate tomorrow night.

Since the coach called this [inarguably] the worst game of the season last night, there should be no reason for the coaches and players to be unprepared in Edmonton.

What style did Buff and Ladd play here in the postseason? Were they stick waivers? They were absolutely nasty... Big physical and in your face. And played with our top guys. Bickell and Stalberg don't have it in their DNA. Q did coach the Cup team. This is about personnel IMO.

Without a doubt last night's game was the worst of the season, and it happened against the worst possible team. But it's just one game and only our 6th regulation loss of the year. We lost because of a lack of effort, not a lack of talent. The boys need to make sure they come out strong on Wednesday and compete with playoff intensity. If a specific player isn't ready for that (ie Bolland or Sharp) then sit them out and try one of the deserving IceHogs.

Worst possible to lose to, not worst performing team - like, say, the Sabres.

Pretty obvious, isn't it?
