I predict the Leafs will win their first game or two in the playoffs, then Leafs fans will anoint them Cup champs only to have them lose 4 consecutive games.
Seriously, if I was Leafs fan I would just be thrilled that they are even in the playoffs. Playoff hockey in HD is something to see. - woopstash
Are there any Leaf fans who think they actually are a cup contender right now? Has anyone actually said that or are you just talking SH*T again? Leaf fans are thrilled they are in the playoffs and depending on who they play could win a series....I don't think any Leaf fans are putting the Leafs in the top tier contenders...
This post is you just trying to stir the pot. |

I made the mistake of using recent history as an influence and picked them to make it a decade without playoff hockey. Woulda been fun if they could have made it one full decade without playoffs, but 9 years is a pretty good run. I know I've enjoyed it. - woopstash
Leafs don't get the luxury of rigged drafts like others... , |

They do, but then they just trade those picks away for Kessel. |

History shows that there are teams not expected to make noise in the playoffs that actually do quite well. Cases to support:
2012: LA - Stanley Cup Champs (8 seed in west)
2010: Philadeplphia - Stanley Cup Final Runner-up (8 seed in east, made playoffs on last day of season with shootout win)
2006: Edmonton - Stanley Cup Runner-up, 7 games (8 seed in west)
2004: Calgary - Stanley Cup Runner-up, 7 games (6 seed in west)
2003: Anaheim - Stanley Cup Runner-up, 7 games (7 seed in west)
This is why I love HOCKEY PLAYOFFS, especially the first 2 weeks! Can't wait! - PAY-DIRT
totally agreed on edm, calgary and anaheim.
but i think those philly and LA teams were in another class.
they were super deep teams that alot was expected of at the start the start of the year, but struggled during the regular seasons. looking at their rosters, i dont think too many people can say it was lucky |

Just be happy for rigged drafts or you probably would be rooting for the Nordiques right now! |

Dude,
"Who is for Real?
With only a few games to go there are a few teams in each conference who have look like world beaters from pretty much game 1. History tells us that were this season 82 games a few of these teams would come back to earth while others below would rise up...However...this season is NOT 82 games!"
Who is for REAL in the East?
Toronto ranked second................................. - Whiskey-Tango
I love how you're using the results of an Ek poll as the basis of your argument.
I'm sure the fact there are 5x more Leaf fans on this site than any other fanbase but Montreal has nothing to do with it...

Not necessarily saying LA and Philly were lucky. Just that once a team in the NHL gets hot and on a roll, anything can happen. This is what makes the playoffs so great! |

It doesn't help that most of those Habs fans are voting Leafs as contender after last night - they saw the truth - they know! |

Whatever helps you feel better man.
But generally how it works is that when you do bad, you get a high draft pick. Like the one Burky traded away. It's OK, I would focus my energy on making fun of other teams too if I was a Leafs fan. It's a lot easier than looking at how terribly the Leafs have been run. Welcome back to the playoffs though! You might find that playoff hockey has changed over the last decade. Feel free to ask me any questions you might have. |

yup.
LA doesn't count as an "anything can happen if you get in" team. Much better team than their record indicated. |

It'll be interesting this year because some of the lower tier teams are coming to the end of a season on a roll (Leafs, Isles, Caps, possibly Blue Jackets and Stars)...should make for some good matchups against the top seeds...the other question is Detroit's playoff streak for real going to end? |

yup. Proves that as clearly as all of your other posts. - Big_Lightnin
I think we all know Leafs fans are the most realistic and level headed of all fans here. |

It proves that Leaf fans outnumber others and know how to troll vote on a poll |

So any Leaf fan who thinks they can actually win a series is a troll? Makes sense. |

It's more of a mentality in general. TSN and CBC perpetuate the notion as well. |

well which is it... is the poll about winning the 1st round? or about being a cup contender?
can't have it both ways...

The question is whether Leafs fans think they are a top contender. I think Leaf fans would say their record to this point is for real, and they can win a series. The idea that fans think they are a top contender is inaccurate. |
