I'm very proud of the boys tonight. They played so well so I'm not taking that away at all. Just would have been nice if Ottawa or Winnepeg lost. Oh well, we just need to take care of our own business. Huge huge game on Saturday. Would live to be 4 PTA up on the Raggies. - NewYawkIslandez
Basically, we win saturday, we end their pursuit of us. |

How the hell did we not get a teensy weensy bit of help in the standings tonight? Not a single f'n game! - NewYawkIslandez
Us either.
Seriously, I'm sure you guys are proud right now. They remind me alot of last year ranger team. Outworking and more willing then every team they play. Been a long time coming and enjoy it. I'm excited to be on the other side of the rivalry renewed and Saturday should a friggin blast |

Definitely pumped for that game. I can only imagine the decibel level at the old barn on Saturday.
I'm watching the college game on espn2 right now since the Isles game was over. So funny how much slower and less intense non NHL hockey is. |

All you people who wanted to get rid of Bailey and Okposo: SEE!!!
(Points finger at mirror)
Nice shot by Bailey. Isles need to be VERY careful in their own zone and around Nabby. - Mancalledsting
I was one of them. I'm still in shock with Bailey and KO turnaround and the entire teams turnaround. I wonder how it finally sunk in? I'm thrilled with the winning still never saw it coming. |

They're both playing amazing right now.
Okposo has skill and now that he's playing as hard as he is, its almost making his major weakness (skating) a non-factor.
Bailey I think just had issues with confidence and consistency which could have been due to the fact that he was rushed up. I always felt someday it would just click with him. Hopefully thats what we're seeing. I just kinda figured it was gonna be after he was traded or signed elsewhere. |

That's what I'm afraid of. I'm just not use to handling the Isles winning |

I always thought Bailey and KO would turn it around when traded or if we got a better coach. I just wonder if Doug Weight locked KO and Bailey in a room and played a video of how to play the game the right way over and over. |

I absolutely hate Hartnell. Love how he pussied away from Carkner when the Isles last played Philly. Carkner would have absolutely crushed him but obviously he pussed out. - NewYawkIslandez
Hartnell isn't a fighter and, Carkner has gotten his ass beat plenty of times, don't act like he is super tough poop. |

Is it crazy I wasn't the least bit surprised we won tonight? Is it crazy that as excited as I should have been about winning in Boston, I just said to my wife, "onto the next win?"
These guys are so calm and collected in their approach to these games, and, the 3rd period in general, that I'm not even that nervous. The last couple of weeks, the opposition hasn't had any glaring chances to score after the 10 minute mark of the 3rd and it's not just one person, one unit or one line...it's all of them. |

No, Hartnell starts sh*t and then skates away, which is the point. This is why it's called "the Ken Linseman" award, and he's one of the finalists....but I think he's going to lose out to one Dion Phaneuf, who seems to have had a lock on that trophy for the last five or so years.... |

They just simply work harder than the opponent- it's not like Boston was terrible for most of last night, they were just better, and they have been for the last three weeks or so- something about just making sure you don't take any dumb chances clicked in the collective brain about a month ago, and they have been a lot better from that day forward. If they have advantage, they take it- if they don't, they dump the puck down the ice, instead of trying to make Paul Coffey passes from their own defensive face off circle, and having both defensemen pinch for no reason, at the same time. The game is only difficult if you make it so, and that message has finally gotten through.
PS- It's nice to be all sentimental about Bobrovsky, and Ray Emery IS having an outstanding year, but how the he11 you give the Vezina to ANYONE but Rask is beyond my comprehension. The guy is just incredible- there was a three minute span there in the second period where if we were playing Florida, we'd have scored five times. He shut us down, including Moulson, who apparently put his arms up to ask God why his shot didn't go into the net.

The ironic thing is that, to me, the rivalry deal takes on much more meaning when the game doesn't. Right now, we're ahead of them, and they want to at least keep their spot, so both teams are going to play their as*es off, for personal reasons...I don't think you're going to see any of the usual side show cr*p that tends to go along with these games. Can't afford to be sitting in the box for any reason, on either bench. No one will be playing for New York bragging rights; they're both too busy trying to punch their ticket at this point. That said, if the only competition is a NJ team that can't score, and a Winnipeg team that can't play defense, I don't think either of them have to worry....but they will, and they should. This one should be a great hockey game, for a REAL reason this time. |

Can someone please explain to me why the Islanders are still in 7th place? Isn't ROW the first tie breaker? We have 17 regulation and OT wins, Ott has 16.
Edit - because I'm an idiot and the first tie breaker is fewest games played. |
