The facts that I provided were that Nabakov's rights were traded for in 2010. And Bryzgalov's right's were traded for in 2011. When the Flyers were looking for a Goalie to build their team around, following the edict made by Ed Snider. Bryzgalov was clearly the Flyers first choice.

no i think the flyers first choice for goalies would have been brodeur in the 90s

They had an opportunity to land Roy in 1995. Clarke said that there's a snowball's chance in Hell of that happening.

Nope.

The accelerated buyouts required a full payment for this season, and 2/3rds of the rest after this season, and the team had to carry the full hit this season.

- Jsaquella

I edited my response above. I would definately buy him out even though he's not the problem. $40 million over 7 hurts comcast a lot more than $26 over 14 especially if it stops the Flyers from other moves. Even add in $1 million over 14 years for another goalie and you break even as a business.

Well, Roy being retired for 8 years probably played a role in choosing Bryzgalov over him in 2011. I could be wrong, but a 45 year old guy who hadn't played in 8 years probably not a good choice.

no one could hold a grudge like Clarkie.

I bet he's still pissed off at someone from 1st grade, and just awaiting his revenge.

Nope. Clarke's rationale-which was shared by a few teams-was that Roy was fading. He had not been playing at an elite level for Montreal that season and had just turned 30.

Also, probably thought the asking price was too high.

a guy they could have had under clarke was kipper. didn't want to part w/ a mid rnd pick, i believe.

There were a lot of guys Clarke could have had. Not that he ever won anything, but Curtis Joseph was a better fit than Vanbiesbrouck, given that they gave up a low number of shots, but more high quality ones, when the two of them were free agents.

I remember when Homer took over for Clarke his first move (I think) was to get Biron ... and I thought "this guy isn't like Clarke. He KNOWS goaltending is our problem"' well, it still is.
