you're standing up for bryzgalov? seriously? The goalie that commentators now openly make fun of?

alright then

- Sheppy99

I think he was more making fun of the Leafs than defending Bryz. I still love that they didn't make the playoffs for the span of the entire last CBA.. even Columbus made it hahaha

Holmgren said he expected more out of Bryzgalov next season (this year).

"Did he play as good as I expected this year," Holmgren asked. "I'd probably say, no."- 2012 season

*My question is he that much better than last season?

- stveshdy

2011-2012 season Bryzgalov had a .909 SV% and 2.48 GAA.
2012-2013 season Bryzgalov has a .896 SV% and 2.88 GAA.

I'd say no, he's not playing much better than last season.

He's a bad goalie making 6.5 million a year, he deserves to be criticized

As much as he could be better, the organization failed him in many areas also.

- flyer_nutter

Agreed.

He's still way down on the list of items I'd address. Were I calling the shots, there's no way he'd be bought out this summer. Not a chance. In fact, I'd tell that to him directly right now.

BTW, I live in Saint John as well and I am embarrassed by your lack of knowledge about hockey.. Typical Leaf fan though.. Everything revolves around your sad team and all you do is parrot what the Canadian media tells you.

If you watched any Flyers games at all, you'd know that it's not because of Bryz that the team will miss the playoffs.. If anything, it's because your player ended Pronger's career.

Also, your GM should be criticized for not upgrading the goaltending.. Reimer is not going to get you out of the first round.

And I'd say the team in front of him this year is FAR worse than last year. Injuries are part of that, but not all of it.

Season to date, when I look at the ledger, the team owes him way more than he owes the team in terms of play this season.

Thats not very good production. Even if you want to blame team defense his numbers should be better.

I'm not throwing all the blame on Bryz but you have to get more out of him than what your getting. Not sure the Flyers want that kind of production for the next six years at his current price.

Agreed 100%.

I wish Pronger was around if only just to squash the media for constantly putting everything on Bryz. I would really like to see this leadership group come out and do it but there really isn't a guy on this team that isn't afraid to tell the media they're wrong.

You know, this almost has me leaning more toward buying out Bryzgalov. I am usually 50/50 on that regard but I wouldnt be against going with a fresh start. It might be good for the team.

I've said it for a while but Id want others gone as well. Coburn, Hartnell, Meszaros and Briere shouldn't be on this squad next season. Just me though, I know some disagree.

Time to build a proper culture, a proper team, and sorround the young kids with the right kind of players. No more chronically stupid, chronically inconsistent guys being paid big money, and expected to do big things for the team.

- flyer_nutter

a real fresh start would involve a new GM and no fulminations from Ed.

If the Leafs had a goalie and Lupul was healthy they'd be my only pick to beat the Pens. Unfortunately, Reimer tends to battle the puck too much and Lupul is in and out of the lineup.

Ill tell you what though, Nazem Kadri is a stud.

You missed a lengthy conversation the other week.

Chronically stupid and chronically inconsistent, while being expected to be a role model for the kids, a veteran, and do big things for the team.

Talent is all for nothing, when you have no idea how it will be put forth on a given night, month or season.

I no longer want this organization to put its hopes, and take up valuable cap space toward such chronically inconsistent and chronically stupid players. Build a proper culture and identity, and sorround these kids with the right kind of players. I dont care if Hartnell statistically cant be replaced immediately. He may not be. Its time for a focus on the proper culture and identity, from the top of the organization down, and weeding out those who do not fit.

Build this thing right, it may take a couple of years more, but in the end it will pay off.

- flyer_nutter

Every single year their goal is the cup. There is no building, no real plan or identity other than go out and win a cup. Struck out on a big D man. Go win a cup. Highest paid player hasn't done dog poop in the regular season in 3 years? Too bad kid go win the city a cup were counting on you

I'm not a goalie nor do I play one on tv. My observations after 2 years. Bryz is a horse quite capable of a heavy load. But for a guy that's been around for as long as him he's a rebound machine and not that great at controlling them. I'm spoiled though, I was lucky enough to have seen Parent and Hextall. Pucks that hit Parent just died. Hextall gave up rebounds but he covered them like a cat. I realize Bryz is a butterfly goalie but must he go down for every shot? Anyway so much for my criticisms of the mechanics of a man making $6.5 million at the top of his profession. Have to agree that he has not been blessed with the best team defense (which I believe he's reminded us) but he just seems to give up too many goals that are his fault. I've seen my share of eccentric goalies over the years and he's no crazier than the others. But I find him a hard guy to like because I get a sense that according to him nothing bad is his fault. Now, other goalies might have the same mindset but I think they do a better job of hiding it. Someone on this board said last week they found Bryz's honesty "refreshing". I don't. I could care less about how he or any player feels. If I want to hear people discussing their feelings I'll watch Housewives of Beverly Hills with my wife. So if Bryz goes I won't miss him.

With regard to Bryz:

You are insane if you think Mason should be the starter next year. No one, including Homer (as he has said) thinks the guy is anointed the starter for next year right NOW. He has to earn it and earn it while battling Bryz for the job. Bryz should not, and I believe will not, be bought out next year. If you buy him out then Mason is your starter. Insane. After next year? Yes, I actually hope so. His contract is a noose around this organizations neck.

Next year they buy out Briere to get under the cap. Bryz the following with, fingers crossed, Mason relieving him (or a UFA pickup/trade- not ideal but potentially necessary).

Mason will get 2M on a 1 year contract to battle Bryz next year as the starter. I hope one of them prevails as the obvious choice. Due to his terrible contract I hope it is Mason.

He is good.. I am shocked he hasn't been traded.. I don't think they stand a chance vs the Pens. Boston can beat them though if Rask plays well.
