Imho, Howard won't be available, and Emery will want a big raise. I'd want no part of any of the others.

Yep. Maybe Mason can recapture his Calder days here. The kid has the size, quickness, etc... It's going to come down to whether or not he gets his head on straight, and is able to deal with pressure.

I wouldnt put hope into him. I take him as a project, and what happens happens.

If the organization wants to move from Bryz. Look to Hiller, Backstrom and Emery.

Perhaps Ottawa and Dallas are willing to run with the young goalies...

If they move on from Bryzgalov there aren't very many appealing options. Really is amazing two years later there is a possibility they are back to square one at the G position.

Thats what pisses me off more than anything.

You wouldn't be comfortable with the options I listed above?

I dont think this squad is as close as some do, and thats fine. I think they will need some more bigger pieces to come up through the draft and contribute. Along with the attitude the kind of attitude and approach that Lappy/Pronger/Jagr brought to be infused over a few years.

For one god damn time, have the patience to build it right, with the right players, the kids that will lead you to the cup. Not all of those kids are currently on this team imo, they will need to draft well for a couple of years. Sorround those kids with the right kind of veteran leadership.

Find an organizational identity, build a culture, and stick with that for more than a season or two. The Flyers to a degree having become a bit of a laughing stock throughout the league. Enough of that.

it's very simple

offer Bernier a RFA contract....4 year/16 mil

why would LA match that? lots of young players coming up that they need to sign...have Quick as their started who gets paid 6....

you'd know a lot about beer league players since your team has sucked for the past 40+ years

you're standing up for bryzgalov? seriously? The goalie that commentators now openly make fun of?

alright then

There is talent, but there is a lot of work to be done. I like Hiller, but how will the Flyers get him? I know the Ducks like Fasth, but I wouldn't think Hiller would come cheaply. Backstrom is getting old, but he's still a solid tender. He wouldn't come cheaply either.

I really don't like the defense core that is here. Other than Schenn I don't like anyone they have long term. Timonen will be retired long before this team is a legit contender.

That is downright lazy reporting. Its easy to pick on the guy. On a message board its one thing, but those guys were supposed to be professionals.

He isn't the only culprit.

I live in Canada, you know why I hate the hockey media? They remind me too much of the poop that exists amongst the Toronto fanbase. Stupidity first and foremost.

Has his foot effected his inconsistenty and downright stupidity in his tenure with the Flyers?

All is forgotten when he is playing well, but I no longer want this organization to tie itself to players who might completely dissapear for a playoff series for example.

Or be a liability, which Hartnell is far too often. I dont give a (frank) if he is goofy or makes the guys laugh. I rather have a year or two of say Morrow/Jagr that would infuse the right culture and way to play into the kids.

- flyer_nutter

I was alluding more to his play this year with his foot issues than his entire tenure. In his entire tenure I think you see a guy that will score 25+ goals, 50+ points, park in front of the net, and bang bodies. Has he had stupidity reek throughout his game? Yes, he was awful with penalties at first. Last year he hit the apex of his game, he was shooting great, keeping the penalties to a bare minimum. This year it's been some what back to the norm, however it hasn't been as bad as it was in previous years.

I agree with Jagr, and thats my #1 issue with Homer this past offseason. It was rumored that Jagr didn't sign because he wasn't guaranteed 1st line with Giroux and 1st PP time. I dont see how you dont give him PP time considering our 2nd PP is pretty bad. Giroux AND Hartnell both had their best years with him as a linemate.

Not a terrible idea. Having a tandem of Bernier and Mason wouldn't be bad.

Try the broadcasters from Boston, Pittsburgh, Buffalo, New Jersey, Washington etc.
They all say the same thing re Bryz.
It is time to face up to it and take some pressure off him.

The way he treated Mason when he came to the bench in the third period break yesterday is not excusable. He is not a leader. Just a lucky rich guy.

I watched buy guess I didnt catch it.

I really hate to get on the guy so much, because I dont think he is some worthless piece of poop.

As much as he could be better, the organization failed him in many areas also.

Holmgren said he expected more out of Bryzgalov next season (this year).

"Did he play as good as I expected this year," Holmgren asked. "I'd probably say, no."- 2012 season

*My question is he that much better than last season?

He's a bad goalie making 6.5 million a year, he deserves to be criticized

He's a good goalie making too much money on a bad team, for a franchise that for a long time has undervalued team defense.

His cap hit is 5.6M

He has been decent but you have to get more out of him for that price imo.

so if things go south we buyout bryz and danny which opens a lot of cap space, find another goalie to tandem with Mason (ie emery), retain huskins for depth and look to find one/two top 4 dmen.

sound about right?

- Manitobakid

Why would we buy out either of them? Even if we get less than they're worth as players, there are still teams that would be willing to take their contracts. It'd be a silly waste of value to just buy them out. I don't know about Bryzgalov, I've liked his play but his poise appears poor. Once 1 or 2 are let in he seems to lose his focus. I feel confident that Coburn, Mezaros, Briere, Grossman, and draft picks have the value to get us TWO great defencemen. I'd say it's appropriate to get one or two great puck movers to help quarter back our offence. Keep Schenn, Lauri, and Huskins to play the smart, safe brand of defense that's important for a goalie to have. Lauri is a workhorse and I have no doubt that as he beats the learners curve he can be a great, smart, safe Dman... He's got GREAT speed for being a monster at 6'6".
