I think this trade hurts Columbus with in a couple of years. What people fail to mention is the price Gaborik carries and how improving a team who's pick you hold is cutting off your nose to spite your face.
Gaborik will probably help in the short term. They should be able to catch Detroit with their goaltending and defense they have a slight advantage over Edmonton. But they will have to do it on the road.
After making a terrible trade for Nash by paying too much the Blueshirts right their ship with this trade specifically. Adding Clowe is gravy especially when Clowe probably has something to prove now on two fronts.
Too many times the Rangers fall in love with the glitz of offensive weapons. A balanced attack is much more fulfilling for a team than a big line. - BluemanGuruu
i still Say RANGERS got a Steal from CBJ - Canuckfan2006
Anybody think this might be a good hockey trade? Jackets get a potential 40 goal score for next year and the Rangers get younger while adding depth to their roster.
Nah, Rangers got 3 bums for an All star. But when that "All star" was with the Rangers he was soft, britle and overpaid.

If anything I expect him to ask for a trade. - Deadmau55
scored 40 plus in 2 of his 4 seasons with the Rangers. 7 time 30 goal scorer, definitely possible. He's not asking for trade, after waiving his NTC to go to Columbus.

Depending on how they do next season, I can see Columbus looking to trade him at the deadline in his walk year. I can see him landing in Detroit as a UFA after next season.

It works for them great. He pans out? Great. He doesn't you recoup young assests.
Teams like Wings, and the Bruins probably didnt want to commit to next year, as a rental he has mroe value I would think.
And also as we discussed this trade can't be judge till we see how they utilize the a little less than $5M gained from making this trade. And before one of you morons say "They only saved $2M!!" They got 3 Roster players for 1 so the 2 current players that would be replaced by Moore and Dorsett (Lets say Pyatt and Eminger) = ~$3.5 - $3M. How they use that money is key to the deal.

if the Rangers traded 3 young players for an overpaid 31 year old people would lose their minds

all it is is extremely unintelligent New York haters throwing their 2 cents around. Very typical.

Do you not read or do you read everything thinking it's against NYR?
I'm speaking about Brassard...if you want to make that a global commentary on the Rangers then so be it.
I think he's expendable, whether Whale or elsewhere, because he's not as good as Richards and Stepan and with Kreider and Miller developing he'll be the odd guy out.
I just have to say this as it will never get printed on TSN: the canuck low life low brow fans are the most disgusting fans in the game. No wonder ALL of Canada hates the canucks and ESPECIALLY their fans like lotterychump, blueballs, knuckles, dvtransvestite demanu et all.
Voracek was good even when he was palying for the Jackets, I'm pretty sure he would of eventually become the player we see today if it wasn't for Howson ejecting him to Philly ofr Carter.
Now that being said , I find it intriguing that Brassard pulled of the sort of preformance he did. In his rookie year he was almost a point per game but Hitch (based on a rumor ) forced him to drop the gloves against Neal, he got injured in the process and since then he wasn't the same.
Maybe he got that lost confidence back I don't know or perhaps the Pens were a tired team and also they weren't expecting to face a revamped Rangers squad. - Alexzanki
I always appreciate your CBJ takes Alex but I think the fight is largely overstated to the point of being an excuse/justification for stalled or non-existent development.

Your saying we overpaid?!
Boll can do what Dorsett does.
Erixson and Prout are more then adequate replacements for Moore , heck Murray is coming in next year.
And Brassard well maybe, he will be what we saw last night but again the jury isn't out on him.
I see this a spare parts being traded, sort of like what Sather traded for Nash.
Alot of people are comparing this to the Scot Gomez trade ,wich I find it hard to believe , Gomez wasn't living up to expectations long before the Habs acquired him, Gaborik on the other hand managed 2 40 goal seasons.

No, you did not overpay. Like you said Brassard needed a change. Moore got lost in Columbus. But both will get playing time here and hopefully thrive.

I don't think the trade was bad from a Blue Jackets perspective at all.
My point is only no matter what the Rangers do, people are going to rip it, as we've seen here

In that regard I tend to think the Rangers are trying to hard to be like the Yankees, a style of management which they should stay away from IMO .
To Sather's credit he always managed (and I dont know how) to unload doubtfull players with doubtfull contracts via trades , I just don't think Gaborik is that kind of player, hopefully it's just to get away from Torts.
