too bad the Rangers won, or this would have been a nice night.

the Flyers need to find a way to get the 2 points tomorrow night.

The Flyers are close to the cap limit every year so that's not the issue. The issue is lost money like in the case of when they buy out Bryzgalov. If you think Comcast doesn't raise prices on its services to make up for losses, it's not worth discussing this.

Actually, half of the average cable TV bill does pay for sports programming

http://articles.latimes.c...2-ct-sports-cost-20121202

However a cable TV provider generally has more costs than a Satellite provider, beyond programming. Satellite has very little infrastructure, no miles of fiber optic and coaxial cable to maintain, no rental fees to use utility poles, no money to repair or replace damaged or obsolete feeder lines.

There's also fewer employees, because obviously less infrastructure means less need for repair personnel. Most of their service guys are contractors, which means less spent on benefits and pensions.

There's a lot of reasons that the cost of TV service increases. None of them are player salaries.

Oh absolutely. When a Company that is worth Billions, has to eat that. Oh your Cable bill is going up. No doubt about it.

what they should do to pay for Flyers salaries is raise Comcast bill prices in other cities, for example Pittsburgh

"we've increased ticket prices just 5 percent. And that's 5 percent as a total for the six seasons, not 5 percent each year."

Yes, aren't you the one that asked me if I really believed Holmgren would tell the media the truth

Note that article's a year old, and this year, coming off a lockout, they raised prices again.

If the Flyers make the playoffs, it will change to a Flyers zombie with "Show Your Faces" as his location.

That quote was from Luukko... He's more bound to tell the truth being the COO of Comcast-Spectacor vs being Flyers GM.

Hey guys.

Whats the feeling on the Mason deal?

I dont mind what they gave up, as he is still pretty damn young and had a monster break-out into the league. Could regain his form, which I am sure isn't the easiest thing to keep in Columbus.

I dont mind, but its kind of stupid. You had Bobrovksy who is basically replaced by Mason. Why deal Bobrovksy in the first place then?

I've seen a few people bring up that this means the Flyers are buying out Bryzgalov? I dont see that personally. Who knows though.

Yes, and again, it's a year old, so they've have two prices increases in two years, including one after a lockout....but no, the hockey team is causing the cable bill to go up....did you go to Tinfoil Hat School of Dentistry?

Still some stupidity, but for the rag tag crew they have, I like the heart and effort they have been showing lately. I dont expect the playoffs, but they should go out playing for eachother, and not rolling over.

We gave up a 2015 3rd rd pick for him. He's 24 and an RFA this summer. As long as Holmgren doesn't outbid himself again to re-sign him, it's a solid move. Maybe, like Bob, he just needs a change of scenery. Bob had flashes of greatness. This guy had a whole season of it.

When it was first announced, people(like me) looked at Mason being a pending RFA and figured that with the qualifying offer, he'd be making $3.2mm+ and that there's no way they could spend $9mm on goalies with a reduced cap.

Then Mason and Holmgren both mentioned that the player's agent and GM had discussed things and Holmgren expects to sign Mason prior to offering him the QO.

A lot depends on what Mason signs for. If he gets $1.5-$2mm, I'd guess Bryz isn't getting bought out. More than that...maybe.

Here's the thing: Mistakes are going to happen. That's hockey. The trick is to mitigate them - through backchecking, defensive reads, getting in passing/shooting lanes, and lastly goaltending.

They've mitigated their mistakes AND made less mistakes. When's the last time we saw wave after wave of odd-man rushes against, for instance?

This is all encouraging stuff because their scoring is coming on just as their attention to better team defense is improving.
