I wonder if they try and talk Tim Thomas out of his extended vacation, going to be an interesting summer.

Cool, let's take another risk on an even more unproven goalie than Bob, and after maybe 3 games he will back up the rest of the season.

I honestly think Homer looks even dumber trading for Mason after trading away Bob. I thought the knock against Bob was that he was too expensive for a backup?

It's the stock equivalent of throwing good money after bad money. They made a bad deal signing Bryz to too many years and too much cap space. They throw away a good, young goalie so Bryz doesn't have to look over his shoulder. They lost on both moves. At least, they are willing to concede that it was the wrong path to go down. As long as they don't sign the next tryout to way too many years and too high a cap hit, it's an improvement over having to be married to space case for another 7 years.

So they made a mistake signing Bryz, and made a mistake trading Bob when they didn't need to. WHat makes you think anything they do with the goalies will actually work?

I have been a fan of Homer, but his track record on goalies does not give me any confidence. At this point, anything good that happens with the goalies will just be pure luck, because everything else recently has been the wrong move.

Of course, I didn't have a CD player when Garth Snow and Hextall were the goalies, either...so it's been the neverending trail of tears in net that have driven Cable costs

Yes, the Bryzgalov contract is why cable is so expensive. Has zero to do with programming costs rising, as more and more networks get into producing their own movies, or rising gas costs, or equipment upgrades and repairs. None of that is a factor at all.
- Jsaquella

My DirecTV bill is much lower and I get all the same channels as Comcast minus CSN... Yes, IMO they raise the bill to balance out these bad contracts.

Until he's signed, it's up in the air. My first reaction was that Bryz was a goner this summer. Could still happen. But, based on the comments from Mason and Holmgren, it sounds like he's coming in to be the back up and push for time.

What happens if Flyers offer Mason 2/$3.5, AAV $1.75?

I can't watch the video but I thought holmers quote was something like "he'll be one of the two goalies here next year". But never mentioned bryz

Pretty sure the team strategy is to at least move one of the current goalies every offseason.

I agree with all of this.

By no means am I stating I have full confidence in Holmgren. The one positive out of this tho is that the Flyers are showing they are willing to cut their losses once they realize they made a mistake. Better to do it now than wait years and years.

He said that Bryz is under contract for next year, then somebody asks about having $9mm in goalies next year and Holmgren explains that he's already spoken to Mason's agent and thinks they'll get a reduction on his deal

They got 3 picks for Bob, right? They have a get out of jail free card for Bryz, right? Odds are in Homers favor! However, if they buy out Bryz and Briere and don't spend to the cap in a rush to the cup, the future is bright.
