#Flyers goalie coach Jeff Reese on Steve Mason: "Right now he's lost his swagger. We'r going to see if we can get it back."

Cause if there's anything we do well here, is give goalies their swag back.

EDIT: Usually goalies we've helped get swag back play for the opponent.

The general sense I have is that other NHL general managers tried to convince Paul Holmgren that Sean Couturier’s ceiling was defensive FWD.

Which is why most teams low-balled the Flyers with offers. Philly management views #14 very, very highly.

I have to say I think Coots is a bit overrated at this point. Don't get me wrong, I think he's a good prospect, but I think most will agree, his offensive upside has yet to be proven in the NHL. I know he's only 20 yrs old and you have to guard against misinterpreting a slump in such a player as him busting, but there are lots of guys with a good Jr. scoring record who don't see that part of their game blossom in the NHL, so the risk of his not panning out is there to some degree. Couturier's defensive game is definitely advanced, but he's also looked bad defensively at times, especially this season. Could be just the ol' sophomore slump...it is indeed very early in his NHL development and tough to make any hard conclusions, especially under the circumstances...but you look at his body of work thus far, it's tough to see him scoring more than around 50 pts, while being very good defensively. While that's a good player, I don't think it's one who should garner such a premium in trade at this point. So, if it were up to me, I would trade him for Yandle, straight up.

Yandle is a 26 yr. old, puck moving, offensive defenseman who can QB the pp and carry the puck in transition. He has put up an average of 45 pts per season for the past five years, on a team that isn't exactly an offensive powerhouse. From what I've seen of him, his defensive game isn't much of a liability. He's not overly physical but plays with determination and smarts. I wouldn't see a problem pairing him with a phyisical, stalwart like say, a Grossman. Yandle is an established, top-minute type D man entering his prime. He can carry and pass the puck with aplomb and has gets a lot of shots off on net. While Couturier is a good young prospect who has a chance to be a very good player someday, Yandle would immediately provide critical elements of what the team is desperately missing.

I'd be willing to sacrifice the upside potential of Couturier for the actual proven play of Yandle for the next several + years. Of course, this is all done in consideration of the young depth at forward here with guys like (Schenn) Laughton, Cousins, McGinn, possibly Flanagan, and possible a lottery pick being here.

No points for Laughton but getting power play point time and is a beast when on the PK.
