My point is, Mason was rookie of the year a couple of years ago for a bad team. He's got a very solid junior hockey pedigree and has international experience at that level.

It's not like Mason was some undrafted meatball.

The fact that all these teams want cooter as part of any deals is a big reason why I'd hang on to him (besides what he has already shown through his play). All those scouting departments can not be wrong. Weather the storm.

Mason carries with him a $2.9 million cap hit this season and will be a restricted free agent after this season. Conventional wisdom said the Flyers are looking at about $9 million in cap hits toward goalies next season. Holmgren disagrees.

“I don’t think it will be $9 million next year,” Holmgren said. “I think there’s a way you can work with Steve and his agent to get his salary down a little bit. I don’t think that will be an issue.”
