To me it says that both Bryz and Briere (if his concussions heal) are both amnestied this summer. And they use that money to try and sign some defensive upgrades.
- MBFlyerfan

Wow.

I think Bryz is gone via amnesty.

Otherwise with Bryz and Mason they are close to 9M in cap hits for the goalies.

Pretty huge gamble that Mason recovers his form.

I'm shocked, otherwise I was OK with them not making any moves other then Hall, but this Mason thing is really out there.

I think people are reading to much in this....I still feel Bryz stays next year
- nonpoint22

An hour ago, I would have agreed. There's no way I can see them carrying Bryz at $5.6mm and Mason at $3.2mm

Mason regressed however so have many other young goalies and they have regained their form. Carey Price wasn't very good for the Habs after his rookie season and look where he is now. Goalies are weird, I think the change of scenery will be good for Mason.
- FreshFlyer

Flipside, though, is that for every Carey Price, there's a Jim Carey. All we can do is hope that this helps Mason, but I don't think we can expect it.

Sure they could. But I don't know why he would sign that.
- MJL

If he had no other offers? If he believed PHI was going to give him a real chance at recovering his career that could honestly be over if a team doesn't take a chance on him?

If the Flyers don't give Mason and offer, he becomes a UFA, right?

It's my guess that Mason will get every opportunity to prove he can regain his rookie form and if he does, that the Flyers will exercise the buyout on Bryzgalov and sign Ray Emery(or similar time splitting type) and go with him and Mason as the goalies next season.
- Jsaquella

I cannot express just how much that I hope you are wrong.

Agreed. Bryz needs a little bit of help.

Just a capable backup move and nothing more, I think.

- Giroux_Is_God

So they are going to into next year with Bryz making 5.66 mill and mason making 3.2 mill and the salary cap going down?

I'd like that fly on the GM's wall to tell me if Homer made a decent effort to obtain Bishop.
- 77rams

I saw a tweet saying that the Oilers and Flyers were the runner ups for Bishop. I don't know what was offered, but it sounds like the Flyers were involved.

The only conclusion is Bryz is toast here, or they just threw away a third in a deep draft if they don't re sign Mason.

Pretty weird move.

I wonder if Holmgren asked about Bob first before settling on Mason?

This is definately a twilight zone deal. We traded for Bizarro Bob.

So you are saying we could have gotten Bernier for Leighton and a 3rd?!

OMG Homer should be fired right now!

I guarantee you, if he did ask about Bob, all he'd hear in return is laughter.

Maybe they're angling to have the #1 pick the year the draft is in Philly

I actually feel OK.

Not a huge fan of the likely buyout of Bryzgalov, but it is what it is.

He's a UFA after this year. Maybe he takes a paycut, like he deserves, based on his play?

It's weird for sure, but I have a hard time seeing Bryz getting bought out. What are the other options now? Mason? At that point, it's back to square one

I think he'll be splitting time with an Emery type. Or, who knows, maybe they do trade for Bernier?
